I uh...

I have no earthly way of remembering what Chuck E Cheese tastes like and not a single human near me could tell me either. Well over 15 years since I've set foot in one.

Is the pizza from there actually any good?

Order from a better place instead. Local chains are usually the way to go - ones that have restaurants in multiple cities/states but not all that many. Or something that USED to be that in the recent past but has grown - Toppers, for example.

Hmm, this is probably why what I said above is the case.

The ones that aren't big chains can't afford to have lower-quality meals and, since there's only one or two franchises, there's more accountability from the home office (which is often in the flagship store) to be consistent. However, they're large enough to be able to source ingredients that meet higher standards throughout the year, more experienced with infrastructure, and more consistent with training. They have the best of both worlds.

While I currently love Toppers (the Stix in particular, as I've talked about here before), it wouldn't surprise me if they went downhill as they expanded - the same that eventually became of the big-name national chains.

The worst thing that happens is you spend money on disappointing pizza.

The best thing that happens is you spend money on pizza that makes you happy or nostalgic.

Personally, as a kid, I remember loving Chuck E. Cheese's pizza... but that was *well* over a decade ago, and standards change and all that.

I only have so much money so not only do I typically carry out, I also have to make sure I get a good pizza for a good price. Getting a crap pizza delivered and paying twice the price of a frozen one that's superior to it is... a big letdown.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

When I was 5.

Maybe shitty cardboard pizza tastes better when you're a kid and it's associated with fun arcade games and stuff?

Never been to a Chuck E. Cheese before.

Was it really that fun of an experience as a kid? Are my kids missing out cuz we don't take them to places like that? Or is it more of a novelty? Seems like a novelty to me.

As a kid it was definitely fun. You got to eat pizza, play arcade games, and screw around in the ball pit/play scape. Then at the end you could turn in the tickets you won playing the games for some cheap toy. There was a Little Caesars branded version near us that had a 2 floor funhouse built into one of the walls. It was like a maze inside and stretched the length of the building. It wasn't tall enough inside for an adult to really get into so kids could hide inside it for as long as they dared.

It was a different era though and I always wonder if they could even get away with something like that these days.

I never liked Chuck E. Cheese when I was a kid.
We went to other non-chain arcades that had everything Chuck had and then much more. Those were fun for kids, teens and even adults.

One place had a mini-golf, rock climbing, maze jungle gym, laser tag, roller skating rink, bumper cars, batting cage and food.
Then an arcade that was broken up into about 4 sections...new games, old games, ticket games and then pinball/air hockey/super chexx/other novelty games.

yeah i mostly went to a place like that myself for my birthdays, sort of a combination of the two but not quite as many things (mini-golf, bumper cars, laser tag, short movies, and all the arcade stuff).

i did go to Chuck E Cheese once, and like Bane i was kinda older, but most of the kids were younger. the birthday boy lived down the street and was 4 years younger than me; he had a brother my age and i had a brother his age.

Why would they ever deliver pizza? The whole point of selling pizza that bad is that the kids/parents are a captive audience because of all of the games and shows. That pizza is not worthy of ever leaving that building.

Sorry, I had to leave work just ten minutes after posting that.

It was a joke. My sister thought it was funny that, when she turned 16, she'd have her birthday at the same place she had it when she turned 2. It was a party for her own amusement.

On the other hand, it's entirely possible that the quality of their pizza has changed over the decade or so since anyone's last been there.

For example, it could be literally the same pizza as back then, and thus has decayed for 10 years.

We had my sons birthday party there back five years ago, to give him something really special since hed just gotten a little sister a few months prior and she was (understandably) taking a lot of our time/attention.

The pizza was...well, it was bad, but at least nobody got sick from eating it. Unlike the salad bar. Every person who ate at the salad bar got sick.
