About a week ago, I had to go in to the ER; they had to give me a CT scan and all that fun stuff, so I'm just waiting for the bill to come in..

Only up side is, they are a teaching hospital, as well as a very local oriented one, so they tend to be much cheaper, and a lot nicer on payment plans for people without coverage. Still not looking forward to it though..

Our system is trash but it's probably that "low" because your insurance negotiated prices down. (Granted, that's bullshit smoke n mirrors anyways.)

I was in the ER once. They treated me like shit, and when i got the bill in the mail A MONTH later they told me I had 5 days to pay and they included information in case I needed to go bankrupt (I didn't, but my point is, they know what they're doing).

Also, they misdiagnosed me and I almost died. They're fucking ruthless killers.

Yeah your healthcare is through your employer so you get whatever they offer, they usually go for the cheap shitty options that don't cover everything, like if your insurer feels your illness doesn't justify a trip to the ER they make you pay it.

Healthcare is maybe the biggest reason why I want to leave this country. People should be openly revolting on the streets over it but we just take it on the chin.

hahaha it's far worse than that.

You may go to an ER and a random number of fuckers may work on you. Turns out that your hospital may take your insurance, but not every one of these random fuckers take your insurance, so if 10 people worked on you you might still get 10 bills.

hopefully you've gotten better after the illness my grandmother came down with pneumonia twice on two occassions. 1st time cant remember what it was, but 2nd time was when she went to a club and encountered someone who was sick and wouldn't stop talking that led to round 2. barely had enough to cover the medical bills.

she lives in another state if anyone asks.

They have several ways to get you.

The first one is the deductible. If you have a high deductible you're fucked.

If your deductible has been paid (by you), they can still refuse to cover certain procedures, or they can refuse to cover certain medications, or my favorite, they can choose to cover up to an amount "they consider reasonable".

True story, if you have a mole you need to have looked at, and turns out they may have to take a biopsy to see if it's benign or not (not ER, I know, but still medical expenses) . that implies a topical painkiller, a painkiller shot, shaving your mole with a blade, antiseptic, and then the laboratory work to analyze the mole.

I had that. The price was $200. My fucking insurance told me they would only cover $20. TWENTY DOLLARS?! Do they expect the doctor to use vodka as painkiller and antiseptic and use some blade they found in a dumpster?!
