I mostly enjoyed Amanchu, but my problem with it relatively speaking is that my experience watching the show could be described as getting beaten with a sledgehammer of positivity, if that makes sense. (Which it may not idk. My analogies are dumb sometimes)

Real P5A OP was this week but surprise surprise the visuals still suck. At least the song is mid tier Persona-wise, which is still better than most.

Also this is the drop week for it. The entire first arc over and not anything worthwhile within. Anybody watching this who hasn't played the game is doing themselves a gross disservice.

My Hero Academia (this week's episode)

Oh man let's go Midoriya.

Fight itself was cool, but I think what I really liked about this episode are the parallels between Kota/Midoriya in this episode and Midoriya's origin story from the beginning of the show.

I watched Aggretsuko on Netflix today. I kind of guessed even before starting that it wouldn't be for me (even if the actual music played a relatively small part overall, death metal is not my thing at all) but the episodes were short so it wasn't much of a commitment. I certainly enjoyed it for what it was, too! A cute animal working in a soul-crushing job was oddly endearing.

Catching up with anime after Dad of Boy took up all my time this week.

30 seconds into Wotakoi 3 and already you can tell it's better than last weeks and basically nothing has happened.

Arise Date (Naru) has been in a few anime, I guess this is just her first leading role.

An odd thing to notice, but with this episode I think she might have the best screeching voice of any female VA, lol.

Is Monday my dudes. Time for some Magical Girl Ore!

Thank god. Wotakoi episode 3 was amazing and it slides the show right back into #1 for the season. Naru may be one of my favorite protags around.

Still have to watch last week's Ore, that's a roomate show so I gotta wait to see if episode 4 recovers from the drop line (though since I'm watching that with him I don't really have a choice unless he also drops, which hasn't happened since Devil Survivor 2 and Magical Warfare)

Guess it's time for Tada-kun's judgement.

I binged through Aggretsuko, super enjoyable. I knew when the short first came out a few years back and I thought it was nifty, didn't know it was getting a full thing. I listen to everything so I can get down with some death metal.

I liked the hyena dude waaaaaaaaaayyyyyy more than the red panda guy even when he was first introduced, and red pandas are my favorite animal. So I'm glad it ended the way it did. Pretty cliche but I like it.

It was a large step above 1 which already knocked it out of the park for me. I can see the show not being as appealing to everyone as it is to me, though. Episode 2 being so mediocre honestly made me super depressed, so I was incredibly relieved after this one was so good. And I just super love Naru's VA, can't even process how her getting the role was controversial for some reason. Pathetic Japanese otaku romance related drama maybe? Certainly can't be because people don't like her work.

Caligula is pretty middle of the road, but there's something fascinating about it airing alongside P5A, and seeing the best and worst ways to adapt a jRPG. Caligula is what appears to be mediocre source material handles extremely well to the point that I can barely tell it's from a game, while P5 is amazing source material totally botched with absolutely no directorial effort whatsoever, a true tragedy since it's Masashi Ishihama. I would say it's even more amazing that the former is Satelite and the latter is A1, except A1 seems to be notorious for putting out mediocre video game adaptations at this point.

A good minute of this episode is devoted to Mario Kart.

It's almost amazing how many things in this show are directly referencing things and not using similies or being vague.

Also Buu saga is the red headed stepchild of the franchise, so it there was anything you weren't gonna get spoiled on it's probably that.

Buu Saga gets way to much hate. I really liked it.

There are good elements, but it's....a bit too stupid, and I'm not even talking about Buu himself. Gotten and Trunks are insufferable throughout and around way too much, culminating in the worst DBZ character, Gotenks.

Really the whole arc is just Toriyama being super tired and done to me.

The character art is super strong, though.

I've definitely heard lots of stuff about it (fusion dance, the name Majin Vegeta, Buu turning people into candy), but not tons of specific details. It's usually not too hard to avoid spoilers for things.

Even if you arent around it DBZ is so huge on so many places I find it hard to believe you could go in blind to a lot of it. Like all the big moments have been referenced in lots of other anime too.

The beginning of the "Buu Saga" is so unrelated to the following events that...I do not event really connect them? Pretty sure Great Saiyaman is considered it's own thing anyways, but even just the tournament until the very end.

I would say the Vegeta's Sacrifice is the last great DBZ moment in the series.

DB has gotta be the biggest anime/manga series where the original creator doesnt really seem to care. Toriyama like winged the whole thing and apparently barely remembers anything. Literally created one of the biggest worldwide anime/manga of all time and cant even remember stuff like what certain Super Saiyan forms look like. I mean imagine If Oda spent all this time drawing One Piece and couldnt remember if Luffy wore a hat

Yep. I heard he actually doesnt watch his anime out of creator embarrassment, but goddamn you cant tell me he never saw his characters in color all over the place for ages. DB had to be plastered everywhere anime/manga is advertised for 2-3 decades and Im sure it had many color pages/covers done for Weekly Jump too. Still leaning he doesnt care because he forgot about all sorts of stuff that used to matter. Remember when near death resulted in significant power-ups? Toriyama doesnt apparently

It was such a huge part on Namek and then maybe a tiny bit in the Cell Games, but otherwise forgotten about. Same goes for Saiyan tails. Used to be important and then I guess somehow Goten and Trunks were never born with them even though they shouldve been

Actually, he remembers at the end of the Cell saga - when Cell self-destructs and comes back at the end, he says he's gotten a huge powerup thanks to the Saiyan blood in him. Of course, that doesn't explain why nobody gets powerups throughout that saga, but eh.

Wouldn't they have just removed Goten and Trunks's tails? They did with Gohan after Goku discovered the ape thing.
