etc, etc.

Sorry, that's not how that works. Drunk you is still you, and you are still accountable for "drunk you". If you would drive drunk, you're a drunk driver. If you're one of those people that says "Haha, wow, I'm so honest when I drink!" and then you walk around saying shitty things to people and harassing women, you're a shitty person. "Haha, Samantha you're so fat and ugly, it's no wonder you're single! HASHTAG BRUTALLY HONEST" The only person you're being more honest with is actually yourself. You're allowing yourself to be the piece of crap you are all the time, only now you're doing it out loud instead of in your head.

Being drunk isn't a magical get-out-of-jail-free card for being a giant douchebag.

Its only true for me if I get blackout drunk. Then I just become a bit of a driveling mess apparently (obviously this is from hearsay) and I also get handsy. But in general, alcohol loosens your inhibitions.

TC is correct about your feelings not changing while you're drunk, but to be honest some things need to be said, whether they're "mean" (whatever that means) or not.

Getting drunk, saying what you want to say, and then writing it off as "oh sorry I was drunk" is an excellent strategy.

People's feelings definitely change when they're drunk. Some people get more emotional or have emotions they'd never have sober.

I don't agree with the "that wasn't me, I was drunk" excuses, but I do think people can be a lot different drunk than sober.

I love slamming back a few drinks, and I never classified people that drink as asses, don't put words in my mouth. As for the news flash, you said that the more you drink, the worse of a person you will become. I disagree. You become less dignified, sure. You lose your composure, absolutely. But a worse person? No. No, I don't think so, buddy.

Yeah. What spawned this thread was actually a fight between some people I know. Guy and his gal (engaged) hosted a housewarming party. Drinks and good times were had all around. Except Douche, that is, who was invited by engaged gal (EG for short). Douche was constantly putting Guy down and trying to flirt with EG, who was only passively giving him the brush-off. Guy was obviously uncomfortable, so us bad drunk people (right Virus?) made efforts to keep Douche and EG separate. Most of us were crashing around 2AM, when we heard shrieking and shouting from the other room. Guy caught Douche and EG making out all hot and bothered. Apparently they snuck off to get frisky after they thought everyone was dead. Now they're both saying they were drunk and didn't know what they were doing. Meanwhile Guy is just falling apart. No responsibility. No accountability. And it's pretty obvious by how EG invited him there, they wanted to get horizontal to begin with and were ready to use getting drunk as an excuse. That's just sad. And you better believe Douche drove off after they got caught. Because why not throw drunk driving onto that shitty person souffle.

Sure, it's an excellent strategy... if you're a coward. Chances are, if you can't say it to them sober, it actually doesn't need to be said. And if you don't have the balls to say it to them without hiding behind a bottle, you definitely shouldn't be saying it.

And if it really and truly does need to be said, leaving it up to drunk you to say it the right way probably isn't the best idea.

You're making this into something far worse than it actually is. First, I'm confident that the guy wouldn't be driving unless he was in good enough condition to do so. Did you see any stories about accidents? If not, no harm; no foul.

Second, you seem to be forcing malicious intentions into this situation. I don't think they were planning to hook up based on your description of the events. Alcohol changes people though. With the drinks flowing, they just made an unexpected mistake that should be forgiven.

Eeeeh it's not that simple.

Being drunk basically removes a lot of your filters. The person you are is who you choose to be and not a compilation of all your waking thoughts. When sober you think a lot of things, some of which you don't actually believe and are just passing thoughts and therefore don't talk about them or act on them.

If you remove that filter through alcohol you're more prone to do regrettable shit. Yes, they're still things you thought of yourself but if you were sober you wouldn't have done them.

Choices make you who you are as a person, not thoughts, so if you compromise your filters then you're essentially becoming someone you're normally not.

I think it depends on what it is.

"why'd you call me at 130?"

And to me "sorry I was drunk and wanted to see if you wanted to watch the game tomorrow" would be fine.

Actually most things I can forgive for drunkenness. It'd have to be egregious for me to not be able to chalk it up to people do stupid shit when they're drunk.

I don't want anyone to be confused in this thread. A harmless bumble like calling someone super early in the morning because you weren't thinking about what time it was, or tripping into a table and busting a lamp, those are things anyone would do drunk. I'm not mad about something like that. But a nice drunk person accidentally fucking up is a whole other world from a shitty drunk person deliberately doing something shitty. Like drunk driving or having an affair with an engaged woman.

Oh, of course. Count on you to know everything about people you don't know and everything about a situation you've only just heard about and secondhand no less. Thank goodness you were around, I'm so lost without you. I especially liked when you said "no harm; no foul" in reference to drunk driving. As long as you think you're good and nobody gets hurt, it's totally fine to drive drunk. How did I miss that?

Inhibition (noun)
1) a feeling that makes one self-conscious and unable to act in a relaxed and natural way.
2) a voluntary or involuntary restraint on the direct expression of an instinct.

Your inhibitions, whether due to your own sense of honor, fear of judgement, a moral code, or a need to blend into society, etc, are just you stopping yourself from doing things that you want to do. However, as intelligent human beings, our inhibitions aren't (or shouldn't be) the only things stopping us from enacting total anarchy as we see fit, so long as we can blame something else or someone else ("drunk me") later.

A man who is afraid to sing in public may stand on a table on karaoke night rocking out to some Queen after a few shots. This man does not want to kick Paul in the balls, however. In this scenario, he is the average drinker. Someone who can let loose after a few drinks and do things they enjoy, but not at the expense of others. He's just here to have a good time.

A second man, who does want to kick Paul in the balls, has a few shots and still doesn't kick Paul in the balls. That's because this man holds himself accountable. He knows that kicking Paul in the balls is wrong, and having a few drinks isn't a magical switch that changes that into "Hidey-Ho, the Paul-Ball Kick is A-go!" and launches him into a world without consequences. This is his conscience, separate from his inhibitions. Though he doesn't particularly like Paul, he is still a decent person, so he does not randomly commit acts of assault, even when drunk.

The third man gets drunk and kicks Paul in the balls as hard as he can; so hard, Paul loses consciousness. Paul suffers a fractured pelvis and has to be taken to the emergency room. Paul is buried in medical expenses. The third man says "lol sorry brah, that was drunk me, I'm not responsible for drunk me lol". Paul is not pleased, and insists the third man help cover some of the bills. Then the third man posts on Facebook that Paul is "a prick who should stfu" and says he wishes he kicked him harder. This is because the third man is a douche. The third man will free himself of his inhibitions, ignore his conscience, and then try to bail on the consequences with a thousand excuses.
