To clarify:

Would you be okay living in a society where the top 2% of people financially are afforded an other-worldly level of luxury and leisure, are in control of most things, and make most of the major decisions

as long as the rest of the society gets to live in relative luxury in peace?

This question is about the inherent morality behind the distribution of wealth and comfort - is it still not "fair" if everybody else isn't struggling, but the top 2% are clearly in a different class entirely?

I personally would be okay knowing there are people who have things I could never possibly afford as long as I can make a living and not be molested by the ills of society/the world

Yourselves?

Where is our relative comfort coming from? Perhaps the reason the super rich ARE super rich is because they can manage those finances more efficiently than the average person can... by handling our money for us there's more money to go around.

However, more likely - even though everyone lives in relative comfort we're still an exploited serfdom in some way, so idk.

Um, if you live in America, isn't that basically the case, only it's the top 1% not 2%, so I mean, actually it would be better then what we live in now?

And before you say "not everyone in America lives in luxury.

They do compared to most of the world population. Even homeless people in this country generally live better then most people in third world countries (or could if they were sane).

Anyone working a minimum wage job (which are available in almost every area, people just dont' want them) can live a "life of luxury" compared to most of the rest of the world.

To answer your question though, no I would not. It is a totally unfair system and there is no reason for it.

If the top 1% had half of their wealth, the remaining 99% could live lives that were far less stressful and enjoyable. Health care could be free (so people wouldn't die or suffer because they couldn't afford it), and schooling would be free (so people wouldn't end up in huge debt for life).

Meanwhile the top 1%...wouldn't ever even notice the difference.

I could live with that.

assuming I'd get to keep roughly my current income and well being.

I guess it's depends on the way the top 2% think. I mean, I wouldn't want me of my family to be on the end of bad decisions just because the top 2% have a different way of thinking...

Let's assume they do things for the common good
You'll basically be able to do everything you want because the resources are available to you

So, nothing against people because of gender, skin color, sexuality, etc.? Or people who want abortions & such...

it won't be a perfect society
but if you can generate an idealized, fair society of relative luxury
that's it

Well in this society middle class people are paying s lot for the things they want
So they arent rich but they get what they want

And yes the 1% controls that money
But we choose what companies get big aside from oil.
We choose who to buy from etc so...we arent exploited.

The reason I ask is because they're making all the big decisions. While I care about a lot of the big decisions made, I feel like the smaller(but still big) decisions that affect me, my family and my friends are what I would care about more... That's why I'm not sure...

I understand that it could never be a perfect society, but I would at least like the people I'm close to to be happy.

Also, I feel like some people(it doesn't mean you guys specifically) would be ok with this... Until decisions that were decisions they liked started being chosen. Big topics that split alot of people... Like choosing things about abortion or on how homosexuals are treating and things like that...

No, because relative luxury is a clean bed dependant on what it's relative to.

I want access to the basic form everyone else has access to: i.e. If a billionaire sails a personal luxury yacht, I want to be able to afford to sail my own small boat. If a billionaire drives a 2000hp gold supercar, I want to be able to afford to drive a small car.

As long as I'm not priced out of activities, I'm happy.
