Live NFL Draft

The time has come for us to select the next generation of players to enter our esteemed league. As mentioned at the beginning of the offseason, this draft consists of college players, around 125 of which will be renamed after real-life players (as I have done for four or five seasons now). Each team normally has one pick at a fixed position in each of the seven rounds of the draft, but through trades and RFA, other teams might end up owning them. In a few posts, I will re-post the draft order and list of current pick exchanges.

The draft used to be done on the board, but it took like 14 days, and I am not as available like I once was, so I switched it to a three-day live draft five or six seasons ago. The live draft takes place in the hub spreadsheet. Due to new changes for Google Docs, you must be signed into a Google account or you will appear as an anonymous animal/noun. While I don't believe that anyone would impersonate another user, I do require that people are signed in or I will not accept any picks they make.

NFL Draft Rules

1. When it is your time to pick, post in the spreadsheet of your selection

2. 5 minute pick limit, which starts when I say something along the lines of "X team is on the clock"

3. If no pick has been made after 5 minutes, I will select the player for you

4. If a user is not present at the time they are on the clock, they will be auto-drafted via rule #3 until they notify me

5. I have full veto/approval authority over trades involving draft picks during the draft

If I dont want to be here for the draft or want to speed it up, what are my options?

Queue - You give me a list of players in order of priority. It can be as few as one and as many as the 250+ prospects that will eventually be in that sheet.

Draft Strategy - You give me a vague or specific set of instructions on how to draft your players. An example of this would be:
Draft best available CB in 1st round
Draft best available player in 2nd-4th rounds
Draft best available player for a position of need in 5th-7th rounds.

Conditionals - You give me a list of conditionals. Unlike the other two examples, this one is best used if you only think that you will be unavailable for a single round. Using HB Le'Veon Bell as an example:
1. Draft HB Le'Veon Bell
2. Draft the best available offensive lineman available with a 1st round grade
3. Draft the best available player for a position of need

This is our first draft that uses the game's generated draft class. All eight previous drafts were imports of my NCAA 06 graduated and early-entry players.

No, I have to do all of that myself. For the first four draft classes, I didn't rename anyone because they were already named after real players. After that, I started renaming players myself because that's when "fake" NCAA players started taking over the drafts. They aren't officially renamed until after they sign with a team or enter the free agent pool though.

Just looked at the FA board. This season was not the season to throw around picks on RFA QB's. That was a waste of a pick and an overpay on contract

To be fair, while you may be right on the pick part, you could very well end up on the lower end of contracts depending on how many people bid in free agency. In RFA you're only bidding vs the team, as opposed to 31 other teams in UFA.

That is not how RFA works. RFA is basically free agency but with draft pick compensation and the original team's right to match offers.

Three users (and at least one AI) bid for TE Owen Daniels, with the Chiefs emerging victorious and the Dolphins having the option to telling the Chiefs no. You do theoretically bid against the 31 other teams.

Pretty much. You're generally overpaying in RFA because if you don't overpay then the original team just matches the contract. You have to offer enough where they think it's not worth it to match.

I had no way of knowing it would work out that way but I gave I think a 27m / 5 year contract to an 85 QB who is 25 (And KCF might have had to up it to get him to accept). In FA right now there is the following available:

Michael Vick 91 (34)
Carson Palmer 90 (34)
Brad Smith 88 (31)
David Carr 88 (35)
Ryan Perrilloux 87 (26)
Cam Newton 85 (25)

So there's a decent chance I could have snagged one of the above on a default contract and kept my 2nd rounder. I doubt there's 6+ QB needy teams and even if there is, they probably have some other positions to offer instead or don't have the cap room. And since I gave Turner 6m guaranteed, I'm kinda locked in on him

I had no way of knowing, especially as I can't remember the QB market ever being that good in the past few seasons, so it's just one of those hindsight is 20/20 situations

EDIT: Actually there is a lot of QB needy teams. I guess due to the above being released

This is gonna be an interesting offseason

I will say this for idling once every few seasons - it makes your hard decisions for you.

This was... not what the Bills were hoping for prospect-wise in this draft. :( Crap. Time to come up with a new off-season plan.

Also, I remember some things KCF has told us about how he chooses to name prospects after NFL players, but I am curious, why did a projected 1st round pick QB get named after Tom Savage? >_>

I could change it if that bothers you. I have used up most of the 2014 and earlier QBs, but I still have a few that might be comparable. Case Keenum I think is still available.

Could be that it was omitted as an oversight but I don't see anything about Cowboys owning any Rams picks here which is why I asked.
