Which of the following companies do you consider to be the most hated video game publisher in history (among the gaming community)?

This sounds like a no brainer question since many people would most likely pick EA first, then Activision 2nd as the very worst and most cancerous video game publishers in the video game industry but I'm sure there are a few other people who may believe there are other game publishers worse than the ones I mentioned in the poll.

Eh, mostly on their fighting games side.

Monster Hunter World is massively popular. And people still hold out hope for new Mega Man games.

Is this even a question? EA has killed off more studios then any other publisher combined.

Second I would say is Konami followed by Ubisoft. I honestly can't remember anything REALLY bad about Activision other then their insistence on making Call of Duty an annual franchise.

EA has been so prolific when it comes to just pure evil within the gaming industry that it isn't close.

Yea those other mega publishers have done some awful stuff and will continue being shit. But when it comes to pure quantity EA can probably beat them all put together. Not even counting their "star wars themed online casino targeted at children."

They probably were not coherently hated like EA since we had no idea back then about publishers. We just rented their games and suffered greatly.

Konami is hated but they are so irrelevant at this point nobody really has expectations of them either.

EA for being hated but still putting out games people want to be good but they commonly aren't or they're filled with something people hate so people get upset.

Ubisoft gets upstaged by EA.

Capcom pulls some stupid stuff but these days it's mostly limited to their fighting games.

It's not even close. EA obviously.

Activision is a big company and I don't really know what they make these days besides Call of Duty.

Ubisoft makes a bunch of stuff that I don't care about.

Konami was one of the best game publishers ever, in the 80s and 90s. In recent times they suck.

I've hated Capcom since they made RE4.

And on a personal level, I hate Bandai and "Namco Bandai" because they always treat Digimon as if they're on a shoestring budget, despite being this big publisher.

this. I am the same age as Angry Nerd. and he makes it sound like everyone hated them back then, but I didn't. I didn't really pay that much attention to publishers. and I remember wanting to try many of the LJN games. I didn't end up being able to play most of them as a kid. but they looked interesting to me and this was before easy access to unbiased reviews. so you never knew what to expect. it wasn't til years later that I put it all together and realized LJN games tended to be bad.

LJN was a lot like Ultragames...

Y'see, Nintendo had a policy on how many games a publisher could put out in a year... so LJN was the goto license for some companies and Ultragames was the fake publisher for several Konami games.

EA

They arent the only big gaming corporation whose actual customers are their shareholders, but they are the worst in the industry about buying up development teams and smaller publishers, and then shutting them down after they strip away all their original creativity to make room for relentless open hands demanding a dollar here and a dollar there in every single title they release.

As people have already stated, EA wins this, hands down. A couple years ago, when Konami booted Hideo Kojima and then stopped him from accepting the reward for MGS, I can understand Konami being the most hated. However, that one incident pales in comparison to the hatred most gamers have for EA. (Yes, I realize that's not the only "incident" Konami has had, but it was the one that garnered the most attention.) As already mentioned, EA has been known for taking development studios and effectively destroying them. Their money-based focus (to the detriment of quality and innovation) has angered gamers for years.

It used to be Activision, but I guess time heals all wounds. It's funny because I was just reading a story from 2009 or 2010 that was saying it's time to stop hating EA and hate Activision. And now we're back to EA again.

I know they're ruining Diablo, from what I here they're the reason you can't play Diablo III offline on PC and Diablo IV is going to be a straight up monthly payment MMO like WoW.

Stardrive, uuuuuuuughhhhhhhhh

Trackmania Sunrise was one of my favorite games and it worked great on my old Windows 98 computer. I never saw the issue with Stardrive.

Then I built my own machine using XP. That thing screwed up my computer and had to uninstall the game (on top of figuring out how to get rid of Stardrive fully). I never played Sunrise again, which is a shame becasue it was amazing. Luckily Nations released for free right around this time and was the better game but man I missed Sunrise as it had the better editor.
