I have a cat that turns 17 this year. The scary thing is that this MOFO doesn't look old at all and barely shows any signs of aging outside losing a few teeth. He still jumps, moves and behaves like he did when was a year old.

I had a goldfish that lived for nearly 8 years.
Mind boggling stuff. I got 4 of them when I was a kid, two died within a week, third one after a year, but the last one just refused to give up. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I have two dogs, one turns 6 next month and the other one is 14.
Older doggo sleeps a lot and moves a little more carefully than before but he had a little health scare with his eye last year and the vet said hes A-OK. Still, cant help but worry because I have an active imagination. Great to hear about your catto though, dont see that a lot on CE! Id like to think pet health has been improving as we go further into the 21st century. --- Sometimes I say things and I'm not voice acting. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Technically my dog is a senior this year at 7, but his breed lives until around 12-15 so he's not that old all things considered.

I had a Labrador that lived 18 years, just passed 3 years ago. Was weird because she never really seemed old, played like a pup til the day before she passed.

My cat's the same at 14 and even her teeth are still good despite never having had them cleaned before. Blood work is clean, etc.
I know there's a whole host of issues that can pop up in cats starting around age 12 or so. Loss of eyesight, kidney issues, cancer, dementia. Can become diabetic if overweight, etc. Maybe we lucked out and got ourselves a couple of the ones that make it to 20+ just fine. --- "It's Canada, their idea of rioting is a half-muttered swear word." - deathbeforelife ... I have two 16 year cats and one 10 year old. One of the older ones seems to have dementia. <_< I've never had a pet get that so it's sad. Not sure if he's suffering and we should put him down.
