I tend to focus on the harmony and melody rather than the actual lyrics in the song.

Lyrics mostly. If I can understand them and even relate to them in someway the music aspect of the song falls into place.

they're mostly all important. if one sounds bad, it can bring the rest of the song down with it. if one sounds really good though, i can find good in the rest even if the quality isn't equal.
