The Walking Dead's Khary Payton who plays King Ezekiel has taken the Lauren Cohan drama to new heights as he's took to instagram to DEFEND Lauren Cohan in her months long dispute over a greater pay raise to stay on the show.

The 36 y/o is negotiating her contract with AMC and was offered a "modest" raise but that wasn't enough as she is fighting for EQUAL PAY against her male co-stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus!!

Khary then posted on his instagram with her picture that said "Pay the woman"

She's been a 7 year staple on the show playing the prominent role of Maggie since season 2 and turned down the offer that AMC gave her which was a "small bump" upgrade.

And although sources say she no longer seeks equal pay but a more substantia raise, they have yet to agree on anything.

It was reported that Lincoln and Reedus got paid a "significantly more" raise than their female colleagues, including Danai Gurira who plays Michonne and she too may exit after the next season as her rise to Hollywood fame soared thanks to her role in Black Panther

Even if AMC doesn't come to agreement, she's been receiving a lot of pilots to star in and she isn't obligated to stay with AMC.

Lauren will star in a pilot called Whiskey Cavalier alongside Scott Foley and ABC would allow her to return to a "limited capacity" on the Walking Dead to close out her storyline should she leave.

It should be based on how important a character is and how beloved the person playing the role is. When it comes to movies/TV, it's a really mixed bag... Some people probably just cry discrimination to get their way, as a means of controlling others. I think the show fucking sucks though, so whatever.

Also this but I support her right to threaten to walk provided it's on the grounds that she thinks she's worth as much to show as Andrew Lincoln and not that she's abusing the current social climate to try to unfairly squeeze out more money.

That's pretty rude, she could at least have given a spoiler alert before announcing she was zombie chow.

She plays a huge role soooo yeah, she should have equal or more pay compared to a lot of the men.

Yes, she should get more. She should be a big enough character to deserve more, but then, this is also a show where they kill characters willy nilly, so I'm not sure how this'll pan out.

Agreed. Although Maggie has been much more relevant in the show than Michonne, who mostly just seems to hang around.

No. How long she's been on the show shouldn't matter. How much star power and drawing ability should determine pay. She's beaten in both those departments by Lincoln and Reedus. If she wants to be paid just as much or more than them, she better hope that ABC show works out.

Yeah, if Lincoln and Reedus quit, there's no way people would keep watching for much longer, if at all. If she quits, the ratings probably wouldn't change. It sucks to be disposable, but...

No, she doesn't deserve pay equal to two actors who are better known outside the show, who have been in it since the beginning, who are indispensable to the ongoing plot, and who have more screen time AND more demanding roles, as well as long term contracts that constrain their career for the foreseeable future.

That said, I think a substantial pay raise is reasonable, but since she's made it clear she's weighing her options outside TWC I would also consider it reasonable for AMC to demand -at the very least- first refusal on her schedule for the next few years. Meaning in the event of scheduling conflicts, she's obligated to work on TWC. It would take someone VERY well established indeed to leverage free agent status like that, and expect to keep it.

Not quite. Scale just refers to the minimum payments and working conditions outlined by the Union for a given role, based on various factors. It's got nothing to go with what everyone else is getting. Chances are Lauren Cohan is making way above scale already.

I stopped watching the show, it's just too depressing, but no, I don't think Maggie deserves equal pay to the main characters...although honestly I've been hating rick for awhile now, and they were not using Daryl much either tbh.

Hence why I stopped watching.

It is Rick and Maggie. Or should be. They are the two who could actually lead and be stars.

If rick died or something dumb like that the best leader is Maggie (Daryl is good at being second)

(My point here, is that Lauren portrays a very important character and a tough one to play so she should be paid as much as the guys.)

You just have to ask yourself if you'd like to see a spin off of that character. A Daryl show, machonne would be cool, Carol would be neat...a Maggie centric spinoff..eh. Id rather watch even a rosita centric show.

As good of an actress as she may be her character just isn't very interesting right now. Her back story even less so since it's pretty much been all in the show anyway that they've been pretty sheltered up until Rick joined the farm. Going forward there's always the possibility of anything given carols shift I guess but she had lost everything.
