I take that back. Despite his republican leanings and pro-America stance online, my bet is that he becomes a traitor and gives information to the British to gain their favor.

Realistically speaking, almost anyone from the current day would be screwed in the 1700's.

Hed try to, but the local priest or pastor would run out and scream Be gone, foul beast! And ICO would hiss and then scamper off into the woods.

people are going to know you are off by your dress and turn of phrase with no valid explanation to back it up...it really is up to what the authorities decide to do once you are turned in.

History class wont help much. Your accent would be foreign to them, and they may suspect you of being a British spy based on your knowledge of American government (which may still be governed by the Articles of Confederation, depending on what year you arrive). And your claims of events to come may be viewed as insanity.

While there would likely be something of a language gap, *either* government would only be too happy to have information about specific battles, etc, and they'd easily verified as correct. That said, each intervention will change events slightly so you'd really need to choose when and where to intervene.

More importantly, you don't need to disclose your knowledge of history to take advantage of it -- you'd know who would eventually rise to power so you could try to get in their good graces when they're still relatively young and accessible. Then you could use that information to get into landjobbing and, unlike speculators, you'd know what would eventually become valuable.

They didnt burn people at the stake in the late 1700s. If you told them about the War of 1812, or future presidential elections, or whatever, would have you tossed in the asylum. Not to mention that with no family or friends, youd simply end up as a beggar and/or considered the Village Idiot. Though for certain people here, that wouldnt be too far of a stretch.

Very unlikely, given that there wasn't much in the way of asylums at that point and the War of 1812 was itself hardly far-fetched.

...given that the US was a nation of immigrants who frequently came over with neither family nor friends -- and often with little more than the clothes on their back -- that's also an unlikely outcome.

Dysentary comes from drinking rivers and lakes. If he is in a town he probably wouldn't get it.

Were these "towns" equipped with proper sewage in the 1700's, because Philadelphia wasn't, ok?
