He receives a lot of verbal abuse and dog-piling because he's pretty adept at challenging political narratives, rhetoric, etc. I've see it over and over. Most of his opponents resort to derogatory remarks (if not outright flaming) when their arguments fail. And he seems to take in stride rather than stoop to their level.

no, he receives a lot of verbal abuse because he often posts things he thinks support his argument without fact checking them or even reading them, which leads to him moving the goal posts and strawmanning people even as the terms of his own argument are endlessly flexible to fit his narrative

also I don't think the fact that so many of his supporting arguments are images from 4chan helps

No, I think hes a massive tool for eating up and regurgitating far right propaganda. Like an Alex Jones to Admirals (who I generally like despite usually being in disagreement) Charles Krauthammer.

Hes also a bartender, if I recall correctly, which isnt exactly a career thats favored by right wing ideology, so it makes me further question his intelligence and motives for championing against his own interests.

Edit: hes someone I wouldnt be surprised to see marching with a tiki torch and then screaming about the fallout hed get rather than wondering if maybe hes actually in the wrong

Respectfully disagree. I see what you've described more often from his opponents. People who are certain in their beliefs, that reason and logic are on their side, don't immediately set in with ad hom attacks. His usual opponents always get hostile, either from the get-go or they resort to it because they got nothing left. When they're that triggered and threatened simply by his username appearing, he's probably doing something right.

Arguments, debates between opponents almost never succeed in changing one or the other's mind. It's pretty abnormal when it occurs.

There's no reason to expect that he would change his mind anymore than his opponents.

But arguments have a better chance of rubbing off on the onlookers or at least those who haven't quite made up their minds on the subject. How do you think it looks to them when they see one side routinely setting in with immediate verbal attacks and hostility or later on when that's all they have left, whilst Mal continues drilling down the points like it ain't no thing.

I like Mal.

He's a nice guy and an intelligent person. He often has interesting points and a good perspective.

His problem is that he is super bad at arguing. He only ever sees black and white.

IMO the perfect example was a topic about hot girls in games and TV shows being bodyshamers and promoting inequality and bullying by being so sexy.

Mal made a slew of great intelligent points and wiped out a bunch of users very weak points.

Then someone raised the argument that it made no sense how video game women can be super-strong and super-athletic despite being 98 pounds with Double D breasts and arms the size of twigs.

Instead of Mal going "Yeah it's not realistic but still .." and conceding the point while still arguing his side... He just went (and I'm paraphrasing) "NO! Skinny girls with huge tits are the strongest and most athletic women on earth! It's completely realistic" and then proved his point by showing a series of pictures of busty girls doing push ups.

He just can't accept that things aren't black and white. And he also can't accept that you can have belief that isn't flawless.

I think if he just learned to appreciate nuance a little more, CE would love him.

He's way more intelligent than users like Chill or Darkman or Dustin who really don't have much to offer at all they just are better are not putting their foot in their mouth.
