I know the people still going to the gameboards go to one specific system like say PS4 and make that the main. But why is that still a thing on this site? It seems unnecessary to fracture the community.

It can also somewhat cut out a lot of unnecessary fights and trolling between different systems that tends to happen, here.

One board still usually ends up becoming the "default" board. Last gen it was usually the 360 version, now it's the PS4 version.

Many games have different versions for different systems.

DLC getting its own board is dumb though.

Its a good thing for the most popular systems but less popular systems can attract a lot of unnecessary trolling from people who go to that board specifically to talk shit. I guess the pros outweigh the cons

Couldn't there just be one board called FIFA (series). People can talk about past and present versions of the series on the same board. It could be done for other things like Zelda, Mario, Star Wars, etc. It would make it so games don't die off once a sequel or new version is released.

Or some sort of optional list similar to "Hot Topics" that shows dead boards being updated with new posts.

You can do that. Click the Favorites drop-down menu on a board and then track new Topics or new Messages for that board.

Each game has its own product ID in the site database. You can see the ID in the address of any of that game's sections (Home, FAQs, etc.). For example, the ID for Monster Hunter: World - PS4 is 211368. Multiple system versions of the same game are still separate products so they all have separate IDs in the database and, therefore, separate boards.

It makes even less sense to cram everything into one board when there's version differences and they are classified under different product numbers. The "main" board is simply whatever system is popular.

Also, not everything can be played together online.

So consolidate the boards and add tags so you can have console specific topics. Ez peezy. 95% of game board topics have nothing to do with the minute differences between console versions.

yeah, it is pretty ridiculous since one board always ends up being the one everyone goes to anyway, and the other boards will be basically abandoned unless someone has a question that is specific to that platform. consolidating them into one board and implementing platform-based tags to tag your topic titles with would be the best solution.

That is what I am thinking. Maybe because I go to reddit when I want to discuss games this isn't that big a deal for me like others in this topic have said it would cause to change. I keep seeing people say it is because of console differences well there could be a stickied topic with those differences and that ends their complaint.
