I get tired after playing for 10 minutes. I don't like gyrating my entire body to beat the level quickly. It was already annoying enough having a run button you would have to hold down 100% of the time, they got rid of that and brought it back, except instead of a button you have to vibrate your arms.

Surely they don't make you do that in handheld mode? Idk, I only played someone else's copy docked.

Motion controls are only required if you're playing with a single Joycon sideways. I'm pretty sure most if not all of Mario's actions can be done with button inputs on the Pro Controller or double Joycon.

I got all 999 moons in that game and never used motion controls once.

He means the motion controls for rolling (and things like climbing, and certain captures) which are straight up faster with motion controls, no way to get the same speed with buttons.

Does kinda suck, especially when so many of the buttons are redundant actions that could've been used for this instead... but if you're tired after 10 minutes, you have GOT to exercise buddy.

I believe repeatedly pressing Y will get you the same results.

Either way, motion controls did not ruin this game since you don't need to use them. Anyway, I played a lot using motion controls, and they were fine. It since I didn't have to use them, that makes it even better.

Actually you can't. You can't throw your hat straight up or straight down and the hat has a auto lock on feature exclusive to motion controls. For possessing, you can't do the cheep cheep spin attack without motion.

On top of these, most moves you can do without motion controls are just outright better when done with motion controls instead.

This is especially confusing considering every action is mapped twice to the controller. There are two jump buttons, two attack buttons and two crouch buttons, and they are the exact same action on each.

If youre playing it docked, you shouldnt be putting THAT much effort into moving some Joy-Cons around a bit >_>

The speed boost happens much less frequently if you press Y than if you shake the joycon. It's kind of obnoxious, but not really that big of a deal. Unless you're seriously trying to speed run the game (which you won't be on your first time through, so that possibility isn't going to have much bearing on how much you can enjoy the first experience and therefore won't "ruin" it), you aren't ever likely to do it for more than a few seconds consecutively.

The entire joycon weighs less than two ounces and doesn't extend beyond the confines of your hand. Use your wrist, dude. If you have to gyrate your entire body to give a joycon a little shake, you're doing it wrong.

I'm pretty sure you can't press it to get the boost nearly as often though. It only works every few seconds, where motion controls get you a boost every time you hit the ground. So speedrunners can't really avoid it, but obviously that's not everyone.

You can do the downward throw actually, by throwing Cappy as soon as you hit the ground after a ground pound (trying to throw it after a slight delay gets you the boost roll move, so you need to throw it immediately). Can't do it in the air though as far as I know, or the upward throw at all without motions.

Actually, I believe you can. But IIRC, It's not simple... It's like doing a ground pound and immediately throwing or something. I think something similiar for up. Either way, they aren't needed. Either way, I believe you can get like all the moons without motion controls. And you can definitely beat the game without them. Haha. And honestly, a quick flick of either type of controller every once in a while isn't that bad or game ruining...

Yep, throwing your cap immediately after a ground pound does the downward throw. Also, you can do the cap spin by putting yourself into a spin (rotating the joystick a couple times), then throwing your cap.

The homing attack would be nice to do with buttons, but I don't think the upward and downward throws are ever worth it (I believe downward throw is used for a skip in Darker Side but that throw can be done with buttons). The spin throw is really neat and the only thing I used motion controls for since it's faster and easier that way.

Also, I never knew that about rolling. I thought the fastest speed was achieved by timing the button presses/shakes rhythmically.
