When it comes to the older Godzilla films, I'm reluctant to move from VHS to DVD because a number of the older films have had to be redubbed in English by truly terrible dub actors. It sounds like they were recorded by three people who gave apathetic line readings after sniffing helium.

Well, my copy of Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster just bit the dust. If I want to replace it, it's $30+ for VHS and $100+ for DVD. Or I could watch a digital copy on YouTube for about $3. I don't want to rent it. I want to own it. And ownership means having a physical copy.

With Legendary Entertainment being set to more or less remake the movie, it's doubtful that the original will see a release before then. And if there is one to coincide with the new release, it might be a squeaky helium-doper dub rather than the original English dub.

I get physical ownership, but for VHS and the like, ever think of getting a recorder to transfer the VHS to digital? You have a nigh-eternal backup in case this happens again. They're pretty cheap too, honestly.

That said, hands are kinda tied. If you don't want it digital, there's little option other than dropping money for DVDs or VHS.

There are multiple DVD collections, but none of them have this film. This movie's from 1964. The ones featuring Ghidorah which make it onto the collections are from 1991 and 2001 respectively.

Thanks for the heads up though. I may need to grab one of those collections simply because I don't have all of those films on DVD. The issues with inferior dubbing are only for the older films for which Godzilla's parent company does not own the rights to the original English dubs.

Besides Godzilla 2000 and the recent Godzilla film, they're garbage. So you're not missing out.

Criterion bought the rights to most of the Showa films and you can stream them on Starz. Though GtTHM is Japanese only atm. (Which is a shame because it has my favorite dub lines <_<)

Theyre likely going to release them physically at some point, though nothing concrete has been announced.
