As someone that only got into sports a few years ago, I don't know what is so bad about instant replay. Can someone explain why I should hate it?

Dramatically slows down games and doesn't actually fix very much because a lot of reviewable situations are inconsistent judgment calls anyway.

the detroit lions would legitimately not be a viable team if they couldn't challenge refs on their bullshit calls

Nah it's an excellent change, we just need to only use it to fix obvious miscalls. We've unfortunately moved to spending 5 minutes on 50/50 decisions multiple times a game, and it's no good.

If it were just used for black and white calls and obvious boundary calls it would be fine.

Instead its being applied to judgment calls and things that take forever to figure out and then they just leave everyone confused and/or angry when the call is finally made.

I thought you meant like instant replay in general, not just for the sake of changing calls, and was pretty confused. Like who hates seeing a highlight play a second time?

As for challenging calls, I agree with the sentiment that it should only be used for obvious miscalls and not calls that could go either way

That's not really something that can be done in practice, though. Like, a ref can't go "I dunno if we blew that call enough to let you challenge it."

I mean they have to do that in the last two minutes in the NFL anyway >_> same concept

...Not really the same thing. >_>

Official review only in the last two minutes is just... No challenges, period. Not deciding if a challenge can happen on a case by case basis.

It was re-implemented in the NFL 1 year too late.

A lot of times it's also the league being dumb in how it is implemented too. Like in the NFL I have no problem having replay for catches/turnovers ect. but have a dedicated official to it where he has the replays available asap so the game can continue. It's incredibly annoying when the play can happen, the tv broadcast shows the replay in slowmo showing the close call and then 15 seconds later you see the officials on the field start walking to the booth to look it over.

Now if you wanna talk about the NHL, fuck the offsides challenge. It's a terrible solution to a problem no one thought was an actual problem and has only made me hate the NHL even more over the years.

Reminder. Without biased reply officials making blatantly wrong "corrections (read bailouts) bitch choker Brady would have only ever even MADE two Super Bowls (and he lost both of them)

Literally every other year there was a call they got from replay on the way that gave them a game they should have lost ending their season...

Instant replay isn't allowed on *enough* plays, and it's objectively made basketball, hockey and tennis better sports

Instant replay works when the rules are clearly defined and the correct call can be made when they look at the replay.

When literally no one knows what the rule is, like in the NHL with goalie interference, there might as well be no replays because the call ends up coming down to a coin flip anyway.
