what is the difference between personal holidays and vacation days?

yeah I haven't even been here a year. I actually don't think the benefits get better, though I could be wrong (I'd need to check the employee handbook)

"personal days" used to be given out once per quarter, but that changed a few years ago and we get them all on Jan 1st. oh and technically one of those "personal days" is a "bonus December day" that we can only use in that month. so to be super precise about it I get 20 "vacation days", 4 "personal days" and one "bonus December day".

the major difference is that "personal days" all expire at the end of the year while "vacation days" can be banked. the minor difference is that "personal days" are always a full day while "vacation" time is technically broken down by hour, so you can take 2 hours of "vacation time" if you had to leave early, for example.

I get 10 vacation/5 personal, though I just hit five years and believe that is going up to 15/5 now

I don't believe there is any real difference in vacation/personal days for me, but that may be enforced somehow elsewhere in the company
and mine are actually all by the hour, I have in the past taken maybe a week consecutively while bleeding out the rest on the end of slow weeks

I gotcha

My annual leave rolls over but only half of it so there's a huge incentive to use it all every year

Right now I accrue 2 weeks vacation a year, roughly 2 weeks long sick time a year, and get 2 weeks personal time which resets every year, must use at least half. There's a cap on rolling vacation but it's a ridiculous amount, somewhere like 600 hours, and no cap on long sick. Also 12 paid holidays.

25 vacation days + holidays off like Christmas, Easter, Midsommar etc and also got so called squeeze days off (if there is a single day of work between two days off). Sick days are unlimited and limited at the same time - too sleepy to explain how it works right now

I was wrong, the increase in time off is as follows:

>3 years: 1.25 days each month
3-7 years: 1.67 days a month
7+: 1.85 days a month

and actually you can carry over more than I thought...

10 vacation, 10-20 sick or personal (adds up over the year, then pays out anything over 10), 8 holidays, 4 years with the company.

Think I jump up to 15 vacation at 5 years, then 20 at 10 years.

At my current job, I get paid by the semester so every day is a vacation day except the days I do work (since right now I have no fixed-time obligations).

In the job I'm starting after graduation, I should get ~1.5 a month (6 hours per biweekly pay period).

so you get 20 sick/personal days, but if you use fewer than 10 you get a cash pay out for your remaining - 10 days? is that how to read that?

Sort of. It's something like 3.15 hours every two weeks, so 10 days a year. You can only roll over 10 days though, so anything over that pays out on your anniversary.

Since I almost never use sick days though, I've been taking the extra check. You could basically take an extra two weeks of vacation if you wanted to though, since they can be used as personal days.

Sick days also don't count towards any type of negative attendence, so long as you have enough hours to cover the shift.

Mine is the same way, 2 weeks personal leave is given every year and half is use or lose, the other half can be cashed out if not used. The accruing sick and vacation time all rolls over.

25 vacation days
6 holidays
If I'm sick, I just work from home in small intervals throughout the day.

Been at my company less than a year. Not sure how long or how much it'll increase. Don't really care since I won't be here long enough for an increase to happen.

I can take off as many days as I want, but I only have one week of paid leave granted by my one job, which is ironic because I fit that job in the cracks not filled by my full time job, and I ended 2017 with four and a half days left, which I told them to give me the remainder of in a check. I'd push the point with my other job, but the company truck/PEX/WEX cards are kind of sweet. I'll eat an unpaid day off when my transportation costs to work are covered.
