This always struck me as odd.

I remember back a few years ago, I had to get surgery that caused me to be out of work for seven weeks. Prior to that, so many people were like oh man youre gonna be so bored! After about a week, youre gonna really wish you were working etc. etc.

But I fucking loved it. Maybe its because of work that I got hurt, but I didnt miss it for a second. Having to deal with stupid idiot customers all day, hauling shit around, dealing with asshole higher ups. It was awesome. I have more than enough books, movies, games, etc. to keep me entertained.

I guess its one thing if youre really passionate about your work, I can respect that.

But these people that need it because they have no other way of entertaining themselves? I really feel bad for them.

I dunno about other people, but the idea of an extended summer vacation just isnt that appealing anymore. Sure, Id gladly take a week or two off to kick around, relax and detox from work, learn new things, and cross things off the checklist. Years off where Im not doing anything but fun and relaxation or bettering myself through skills, and not engaging in a work environment? No thanks.

Its the same thing for my response about work if I should ever win the lottery. Id still work, but in a sense to keep a sort of rhythm with my life. Fun and games are good, but in moderation.

Edit: Hell, even if its something as mundane as mowing lawns, driving people around as an Uber or Lyft driver, etc, is still take that over perpetual unemployment.

My dad is a workaholic. The fact he calls himself lazy after working 9-10 hour days and doing martial arts/exercise, cooking, or helping others with projects in his free time speaks for itself. He never stops. He's concerned about retiring and being bored. He got medical leave for spinal surgery a few years ago and got cabin fever very quickly. He was walking around normally in a couple days...

I agree with rexcrk. I had months off at one point. And loved it. I was sad to go back to work. I would love to never have to work. It's great. I understand that some people can't stand not working. I'm totally fine with it...

I had about a month off after graduating college and I was starting to hate it. As much of a nightmare as it can be, having a routine is nice.

Yeah, although I do agree with an above poster.

If by some miracle I came into a fortune and didnt HAVE to work, I probably still would. But probably a few hours a day for a few days a week just to get out. Though if I had unlimited income, Im sure I could find ways to get out without having to work lol.

i wouldn't work if i didnt have to. there are things you can do out and about to have fun (recreational sports for example). just because you don't have to work doesn't mean you have to stay home (in a lottery type scenario)

Working is a large part of most people's lives, why wouldn't they have difficulty operating without it?

Also, depression is a thing. Work is good because it distracts you, if you're depressed then that time is necessary to cope.

Like Krazy_Kirby said, I could go out and play a sport. Or work out. Or just have more time to spend with family and friends.

When staying home, I love to sleep. And snack on food while watching just whatever was on. Haha.

I think Imd be fine...

Your family and friends who are presumably working all day?

I haven't been working for a while and it's not like I necessarily have a difficult time keeping myself entertained, but the pressure to find work can make life boring. I don't want to go out and do things too often because that involves spending unnecessary money and/or puts you in a situation where you can't easily respond to and take care of job prospects. I could just sit and play video games all day or something, but that also gets boring. I like to socialize but I'm not great at making friends, so work is a nice way to get out of the house and have the chance to talk to people. Plus, even if I was better at making friends, I imagine a lot of them would just be at work at the time I'd be at work if I had a job.

Yep. They all work at different times. So, I can spend time with one, then switch, then switch again. Haha. But that's when I go home. I live halfway across the country right now. And I don't have the money to go home... well, extra money... Haha.

I think that's a little different. That's just not having a job. I felt the same way when I was looking for a job. I started eating less. And eating cheap. Haha. But if I didn't have to work, then it's different...

Having a grand mal seizure and accompanying concussion that hospitalized me at work honestly resulted in a really enjoyable stay-cation that I wish I could have again. It's kind of sad that my job is so stressful that I sometimes long for the days I was too concussed to function
