While RotJ is inferior to ANH and ESB, it's still a pretty good film. It was mostly bogged down by shitty attempts at merchandising (Ewoks) and a speedy resolution to some of the last film's events (the opening where Han Solo is freed)

Nah, everything that wasn't Ewoks destoying AT-STs with logs was great.

I enjoyed it, but I'm rather permissible with goofy fun children's movies. There are enjoyable parts of II and III, but they mostly bunged the prequels with goofy CGI, goofy plot, and goofy acting. The Plinkett reviews are more enjoyable than the movies themselves. I enjoy the original trilogy, but honestly find all three of them rather slow and plodding. Still, that's how old movies are - it's just more noticeable for me, because, be real, Star Wars is just a fun sci-fi romp with some light heaviness thrown in. This is my own dumpass perspective, much like everyone else's.

The new movies have been cheesy, but fun. Sure, I get why people don't like certain plot choices, but I loathe people that take that sort of thing seriously. It's a fun movie. Get over it! I've liked the past 3 new movies about equally.

The first third of the movie feels a bit nonsensical though very fun and memorable (a bit like TLJ as a whole), and the ewoks weren't really well executed, but when it's good it's really good.

the ewoks were fine imo.

the only big issue i have is with the special edition that spends way too much time with jabba and adds that awful song. way too much cringe for me. otherwise it's my favorite star wars movie.

Are you talking about that weird song with the CGI people playing whacky instruments? The first time I saw that I was NOT jazzed lmao. I agree with everything else, RotJ was really fun and badass.

yeah, it was fine before lucas went and added all that stuff. before that it was a pretty chill and grim scene. then it became a weird music video straight out of a fever dream or something. just.. that yellow thing, man.

RotJ was ruined by the Ewoks. If there'd been Wookies, as originally intended, it would've been okay.

The first few times I saw the song number, I liked it. Now I'm kinda more eh about it. As for Jabba, the CGI'd version seen in ANH stands out like a sore thumb compared to the set-piece version seen in RotJ and, tbh, having him move by himself like that really detracts from the character's presence. Plus why the fuck is he running an errand like that? While Jabba was among my favorite Star Wars villains for ages, that was probably when he started to lose some of the appeal.

If that was the original plan, that would have been cooler -- although a little contrived and, since the base was supposed to be secret, probably wouldn't have made sense in the larger narrative structure.

Ewan Macgregor was like the only actor who gave a shit in the prequels.
I do at least enjoy to watch all Star Wars movies though.

idk, it was neat seeing Liam Neeson show up for a paycheck. And he was a pretty badass Jedi. Not as badass as Mace Windu, but that guy's lightsaber had badass mofo written on it. And he was so confident in his badassery that he had a purple lightsaber.
