There have been some rumblings that Kawhi has been unhappy with the free agents the Spurs have signed (probably including LMA), and he doesn't feel like they're surrounding him with players that can help them win a title.

I'd like to see someone give a hot take about Kawhi being a product of the Spurs system and not the megastar that he's made out to be. that team is still a 50 win team without him. take any other star off their team and they're probably not worth 50 wins.

LMA has thrived without Kawhi and I bet there's a struggle when he comes back.

Oh, I definitely think Kawhi wouldn't have become as good as he has if he'd been on most other teams. They've maximized his potential there, and I don't think he'd be as good elsewhere. Looks like we might get a chance to find out though!

The Duncan/Pop argument is basically in the same category as the Brady/Belichick argument, although Duncan actually did almost leave.

But we did have somewhat of a sample that showed the Pats were relatively as good without Brady as they were with him. I can't remember if there were stretches were Duncan was out.

I dunno if 11-5 is "relatively as good" as the team that went 18-1 the year before, but it's too small of a sample size regardless.

I mean, the Spurs have still been good even without Duncan, but that doesn't mean his talent was a mirage.

Yeah, it wasn't a good offseason for the team, no doubt. I tend to default to "In Pop we trust," but they definitely made some head scratching decisions.

and yeah sample size is too weird in football. nick foles was on a streak of like 27 TDs and 2 INT for a season... and then he went ballistic again at exactly the right time. yet virtually everyone considers wentz, who's never even played in a playoff game, to be better.

Not that there's much defending that disaster of a play, but the Lakers' spacing was also terrible. Three guys on the wing and one in the paint, all on the same side as the ballhandler's drive, is just begging for a turnover.
