I might get eviscerated for this but my understanding is that turbulence is when you have a flow rate that changes over time in a way that can't be predicted by the model. so rather than thinking of turbulence as a thing, I just think of turbulence as a code word for 'we can't predict the behavior of this system.'

Sorcery Jokers. About 6 different people in a world with magic. There's some crazy cult conspiracies, lots of cool fight scenes and some wild ass twists. Also a bonus, lots of cute girls.

I didn't know this was open to anybody's suggestions, but I would recommend the best VN ever made The House in Fata Morgana

Chaos;child is a pretty great VN from what I've heard but the anime isn't as good and obviously spoils the plot.

I don't know if you've played Gahkthun of Golden Lightning but that's on steam and I think it's pretty fun, especially if you've played Sharnoth or Inganock already. It's much better than those two.

Alright alright I'll admit I wouldn't have posted here if it wasn't for this.

It's not technically speaking incorrect but the theory of turbulence is actually much richer than "we can't predict the behavior of this system". Turbulence is basically like the universe trolling physicists.

For example, the 2d equivalent of fluid flow (which can be used to approximately model the atmosphere) doesn't actually have turbulent flow. If you have any "disruption" in the fluid it quickly "dies out" and doesn't build up. But for three dimensional flows...

Big whirls have little whirls,
That feed on their velocity;
And little whirls have lesser whirls,
And so on to viscosity.

is a little ditty that a meteorologist named Lewis Fry Richardson made up to encapsulate this phenomenon.

This is caused by the interaction between a dissipation term (aka why wakes from boats don't just persist + go on forever) and the convection term (aka how things flow), which individually are tractable but when you put them both in an equation screw things up.

What really sucks is that, even knowing that smaller/slower/more viscous things cause bigger/faster/more slippery to exist gives us non-zero information about how fluids behave, but the thing is that how the larger scale whirls interact can also cause the smaller scale whirls to die out / grow and vice versa. But we can still make some (weak) statements about the structure of turbulent flow. A Russian physicist actually modeled turbulence as a completely fractal/self similar structure and got an answer for "what is the frequency of the whirls at a given size) that matched pretty close to reality!

But yeah, turbulence is frustrating because it's non-existant in a lower number of dimensions, it's composed of two terms, that on their own are pretty easy to solve and it has barely enough structure to make you think that you know something about it then says "lol no not even close kiddo."
