I'm not familiar with Shadowrun but from the brief glimpse I read, doesn't it take place in far future with the magical creatures having one day just suddenly appeared? Bright's universe seems to be one where fantasy races have always coexisted with humanity and live in our modern world. That's a very unique premise.
