You go the whole game without even seeing Smithy, and I honestly don't even remember if at any point they directly state he's a specific individual. Instead you go through this whole big adventure under the impression that the lead villain is the giant sword, and then literally in like the last hour of the game they bait and switch you revealing he's not after you defeat him.

Then randomly you get to the end of the final level and there he is, with pretty much no exposition whatsoever. And beyond that, the first phase lasts like 2 minutes before it goes to his true form which is just him, but he can transform his head? Lol seriously, one of the forms he can take is his body with a wizard's torso for a head. Random as hell.

They mention Smithy as a character with underlings. I agree they could have done a better job differentiating Exor and Smithy. As a kid I also thought the sword was Smithy.

But beyond that small bit of confusion he makes sense. The weird form is an anvil because he is the meta level abstraction of all weapons.

I forgot color splash even exists honestly.

I'd even settle for GameCube VC on switch with thousand year door on it at this point. My GameCube shit out after attempting to install the hdmi adapter mod myself. Pro tip: don't waste your money, it can easily fry your motherboard.

I know, but they don't actually explain that over the course of the game, do they? All I remember is the bosses referring to the Smithy Gang and saying they're gonna fill the world with weapons. But I don't recall if they actually specifically state they have a leader named Smithy. I know I'm probably wrong, but it doesn't ring a bell for me.

Mostly I just find it odd that you don't really hear from or see the big bad until the last 15 min. And like I said his true form is really bizarre.

The real confusion came from commercials in the west advertising "Smithy the Sword."

But yeah, the final boss is a weapons manufacturing evil Santa Claus and he appears without buildup. Were in not for the bad ass music in the Factory level and Smithy fight, it might've been better to have made Exor the final boss and called it a day.

I do feel like they should've hinted at Smithy a bit more. Like, in the Seaside Town, I think they should've had a statue of Smithy in the center of town. Then, when you rescued the townsfolk, they could've replaced it with a statue of the town founder or Mario.

Yeah, I agree.

Doesn't have to be some major boss. Just some weirdo who pops up without warning and never gets mentioned again. Like Punchinello in Moleville Mines.

Hell, Moleville reminds me, it could've just been Croco Round 3 with him having the weird idea to somehow steal people's wishes for a profit(freely rationalize/imagine however that works). Give him further buffed stats and maybe let him (repeatedly) summon some of his Bandit cronies as backup. It'd make sense considering there's a way too long interval between your second fight with him in Moleville, and your next encounter which is way, way later in Nimbus Land after you defeat Valentina.

i also thought it was really weird that when you fight valentina everytime you hit her she jiggles her boobs at you.

As much as I love the game, I do feel like it had some pacing issues. Star Hill needed a boss fight more than the Factory needed another one. And Tick Tock's weirdness seemed more in line with Star Hill's geckos, gophers, and mastodon skeletons than Smithy's factory.

I like that boss fight, but I feel like it should've stayed in the factory. If nothing else, I like the visual of its coils wrapped around the support beams.

I think one of the arrowheads mention they are reporting back to Smithy about Geno. The other minions in Seaside town also mention Smithy. The bosses don't.

The anvil is in his body. It's why he keeps pounding himself with a hammer and the object he puts on his head changes to something else worked out of metal. It's easier to see in the first form where he has the long beard, but it doesn't include his head.
