How much HOMEWORK? Assume 4 classes per day

Let's say an average of 4 classes per day, 6 classes being taken overall.

If I did a quarter of my homework all through high school it was a miracle. I did the big project stuff passing the class depended on. All the other daily bs could burn.
My argument always was that I never saw any of the adults in my life bringing their work home with them from their jobs so why the hell did I have all this bs thrust on me. Just fuck it.

What's the schedule like though? 4 classes a day, but 8 classes total?

I would say an hour and a half for 4 classes a day should be the max. It depends heavily on what the classes are too though.
Or maybe the classes should be taught more efficiently... hm.

There should be little to no homework. At least for the lower grade levels. Cutting into a child's playtime and disrupting a parent's already, busy day. Doesn't seem all that great or productive.

But yeah... I still think... an hour and a half to two hours (half hour per class), but that's a lot when school days can drag on 7-8 hours.

I'm a teacher and I rarely assign homework just for the fact that kids rarely ever actually do it. It becomes a waste of paper (that I have to pay for anyway). If i was at a better school I'd probably assign readings so that class discussion can flow better/faster or maybe a short DBQ.

Back when I was in high school, homework assignments like "Color the map", "Draw a picture depicting _ from this book", etc. felt stupid and pointless.

You're joking. Kids simply cheat together to complete it, inflating their grade and as a result, their opportunities. Or they simply just won't do it.

There's no correlation between kids who do homework, and what jobs they end up with. I'd say the ones who don't do homework are more efficient, because they rightfully see it as a waste of time.

I don't agree with having mandatory homework. If a child needs help with a particular type of problem they can do some of the problems from the book. If you know the material you shouldn't have to do homework. Homework was responsible for lowering my grades in school even though I did fine on tests.

This. I felt like I didn't need to study that much because I always did my homework. It's a good habit to get into for later in college.

Homework is extra useless (philosophy on it aside) these days because it isn't practice for anything except kids looking up the answers to everything on the internet.

Putting a question into Google for any subject yields the answer almost 100% of the time and nobody, kid or adult, is going to do work when a shortcut is easily available.

Tbh I'm convinced technology is one of the main problems in education in that regard.

Which is why I say 1 hour of homework should be the standard, since school (at least for mine) lasts 7 hours, and the extra hour of homework makes it equal to your average work day.

The gold standard at my school was 1 hour of homework per class, with seven classes per day. It was actually idiotic and I rarely did it.

Thats one of the more passive benefits of block scheduling. It helps prevent overzealous teachers from doubling up on large assignments and taking over students lives.
