it should be illegal to gift mass sums of money to a politician to vote how you'd like.

but it will never be illegal because politicians are more concerned with lining their fucking pockets with money to fuck over regular people in the US.

it doesn't matter who you vote for here with the two party system. they're all going to get paid off unless they have giant balls and try to really get their constituents on board with their plan WHICH IS HOW IT SHOULD BE

Yeah, it's horrendous. I think Bill Clinton is to blame for money in politics getting to the heights of today, but it was a problem before him too. In Canada, there are pretty good limits involving money and politics.

it is practically the same. they promise extra money outside their salary if the politician will vote the way the corporation wants. if they don't do that, the corporation will pay to uplift their competition. it's a horrible broken system and i wish it were illegal.

Without the money it's just noise to block out. Our government has some serious issues and I'm not sure if it's possible to fix.

It means obviously they work for the benefit of their employers, constituents are just their base workload.

People are assholes for money and that's been accepted in America for a long time, why would politicians not get in to the time-honoured tradition? That's Capitalism at work.

i mean without money it's more about getting your data proper and trying to earnestly convince a politician that your problem is something they should care about

You get a job because the market forces demand someone do that job, how well you keep to that job description is still decided by your employer.

For example: If a lot of people go to Burger King then the market (the analog to constituents) means Burger King needs more cooks. When you work at Burger King, you make the cheapest, crappiest burger possible as your employer (lobbyists) demands, despite the fact customers want it cheaper and healthier.

You report to your boss, even though you serve the public.

A politicians constituents (corporation owners) are those people who are lining your pockets, not the simpletons who work the the fields (i.e. at the corporations).

The government is corrupt as hell, but there are a lot of countries with that problem who fare better.

Let's face it: the population itself is extremely divided. Even if you take the corruption out of it, its extremely hard for even an honest politician to get anything done.
