It is a great one. I love the kidney shape for the X and Y buttons. C-Stick seemed a little off, and the Z button could be busted with a lot of use (not that I ever did, but I see it a lot).

Lack of second shoulder button didn't affect me back in the Gamecube days, but after the Wii/x360/ps3 gen it kinda made me miss it

It was excellent for games designed for it. Not so much for everything else. I remember picking up the Mega Man X collection for GameCube and finding it completely unplayable.

I'm convinced this is the biggest troll opinion on the internet these days. Like, everybody always claims the controller was great, but it's objectively a piece of shit.

The Z-button was oddly placed and too small. The triggers required far too much movement before they'd actually register. The C-stick was hot garbage. The D-pad was way too small and not very responsive. The stick had way too big of a dead zone in the middle. And the button sizes/placements were just arbitrary and senseless. I mean, who in their right mind thought "hmm, the B/cancel button is the second-most-used button on a controller, so let's make it the smallest one and put it right in the middle of the most frequent movement you will make with your thumb (between the C-stick that has no gripper and constantly lets your thumb slide off and the A button that does 90% of everything because it's the only viable button on the controller's face)."

GameCube controller is the worst controller ever made. Possibly second-worst, behind the N64 only. But the N64 gets somewhat of a pass because it was a first attempt at a proper controller for 3D games, and many of its features became standard practice (L/R, control sticks, ergonomic handles, etc). There's absolutely no excuse for how much of a steaming pile of feces the GameCube controller was.

Pretty much. When the "opinion" is based on objectively false facts and the general consensus when the controller first came out was that it was garbage compared to the Dualshock...yes, it's pretty clear it's become a troll at this point.

The triggers had dual registration - press a little for "trigger 1," press until they click for "trigger 2." It was an ingenious innovation that should have been adopted as the standard, honestly.

Partially agree. As I said in my previous post itt, it was perfect for games designed for it, but useless for multiplatform releases and ports.

When the GC/PS2/Xbox console wars were in full swing, the GC's controller was like, the most lambasted thing.

Weird to see what a cult following it received. I blame the anal-retentive Smash base. >_>

D-pad sucked, C-stick did not need to be that small either. face buttons were awkwardly placed. Lacked the fourth shoulder button. Z button was also awkwardly much smaller. So was the B button. X/Y buttons were indistinguishable.

That all being said though, the Gamecube controller was very much a "specialized" controller and I can see what they were going for. It worked with a lot of things, but for most play it was inferior to the DS2

I never had much of a problem, but I think the only multiplatform games I had on GCN were those lord of the rings beat em ups so maybe it varied by genre

It's good. Not perfect. Cstick is garbage, z button is terrible, dpad was kind of small but not many games used that.
It was comfortable, but the xbox 360 controller surpassed it there.
