Debating whether I want to buy an HDR capable 4K TV or not. I want to get the One X but my 4K TV isn't HDR. I want to know if it's worth getting just for the resolution increase even without HDR.

It is. 1080p still looks nice, but 4K looks much better.

I have a 55" TV in my living room and 65" TV in my bedroom. The difference is very visible on both.

I mean upscaled 1080p looks TONS better than 1080p on 1080p. Am I going to get that same change in quality or is it going to be "meh, it's better I guess"?

I mean, it's visibly better. How you feel about the difference is gonna be your own opinion. I'd advise going to Best Buy and having them demo the difference on a TV you're looking at buying to see whether it's worth it for you.

Upscaled 4K barely improves the image and adds definite motion blur to fast moving images, like sports. I always disable it immediately.

People convince themselves that it's "way better" and "very noticeable" because that's what they want to see. They want to be confident that they have the best, or that they didn't waste their money. It's all a load. Unless you have a TV that's like 70"+, you WILL NOT notice the difference between 1080p upscale and 4K. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise, they're just trying to justify their financial wastefulness.

4K tvs are significantly cheaper than 1080p was at this point in the product cycle

You could also say that you're seeing what you want to see, which is a minimal difference so you can justify your decision to go with a cheaper alternative.

If it's not worth it for you, it's not worth it for you. That doesn't mean somebody else with a different set of eyes won't see a difference they think is worth the extra money.

I'm not, though. I don't buy things because they're cheap or because they're expensive. If it's better, it's better. 4K is not better than 1080 on small-medium screens, it's just a fact.

It's been proven time and again that the human eye CAN NOT see the differences that people claim to be able to see. Individual A is not special, their eyes are not above-human.

That's false. I've got a 55" TV and a 65" TV and the difference between 1080p and 4K is noticeable on both.

@Zero_Slash Source? I notice a difference between the two on both of my <70" TVs.
