I've always wondered, how come Sabertooth in X-Men 1 acts and looks so different than Sabertooth from X-Men Origins: Wolverine? They are like completely different characters. In X-Men 1 he's just another henchman. In Origns: Wolverine he's a bad ass and a main character.

Also, how did you feel about a Wolverine clone in Logan? I wasn't particularly a fan of it because it seems they can just clone Wolverines whenever they want. Sure, not the same person but at least physically they'd be the same. I read an idea from the Movie (Theater) board that they should've brought Liev Schreiber back as Sabertooth to be the villain instead of a Wolverine clone. But I don't think that would've made sense.

He was more of a main character and boss than a low level henchman in X-Men 1.

Stryker still told him what to do.

Real Life: They had no idea what they were going to do and just wanted a big brute to play him in the first one.

Story: He further mutated and became more and more animal like.

I think Sabertooth being the bad guy would have been pretty cool in Logan tbqh, but whatever

That was Wolverine's true ability right. I remember reading somewhere that his true mutation was that he keeps evolving or something like that

Given that Wolverine lost his memory at the end of Origins and ended up locked up in the post-DoFP timeline during Apocalypse, Sabertooth probably went through similar shit.

I definitely think Sabretooth should have been in Logan over a clone. They chose a clone of Wolverine as symbolic of what Wolverine is afraid he could become if he were to lose himself or fall under a bad influence.

The thing is, that's exactly the entire point of Sabretooth's character. He's the same as Wolverine, the only difference is Sabretooth doesn't fight off the animal-side of him, he embraces it. It's why most the time in the books whenever the two 1v1 fight, Sabretooth will generally win -- not only does he want the blood more but he will fight so fucking dirty (targetting innocents etc..). This also helps demonstrate why Wolverine needs the X-Men, he needs the support and love of others even if he's hestitant to openly admit it.

I like to think the real reason Logan was hanging out with Caliban and looking after Xavier in the movie wasn't because he's a good person per se but because he was afraid of becoming a bad one.

But yeah tl;dr Sabretooth works better IMO. Maybe they felt it would have required too much exposition or something?
