like wwe wrestlers?

yeah, why not? because the outcomes are pre-determined? it's still a level of athleticism and showmanship most people don't achieve.

I cant say I think about them

Many are celebrities though and do impressive physical feats that your average joe couldnt pull off, not sure what the argument would be that they arent accomplished, whatever that even means

A lot of them have hit good points in their career, are well known and make enough money. They also have their own family so yes I'd call them accomplished. Some even appear in movies, do charity events and other promotional things too. While others have their own band, put back into the business, move onto other sports or even get involved in politics. Not all wrestlers are at that point yet though but that's mostly the young, upcoming talent.

Accomplished meaning what? Clearly the top guys are wildly successful by any reasonable definition. Quite a few of the top names *have* secured movie deals (and not just some shitty WWE picture) or gone on to do great things. Hell, Jesse the "Body" Ventura was governor for a term and Glen Jacobs (Kane) is running for mayor.

However, I'd argue that even securing a spot on a major roster makes most of them accomplished. It takes a lot to get into there and they make pretty good money even factoring the expenses. Pro wrestling -- at the actual professional level -- is definitely a skilled profession.

Should also be noted that it's a lot harder to earn a living pro wrestling today since there are fewer promotions and the fanbase is smaller. Wrestlers also tend to work a more intense style, with stupid moves like suicide dives popping up in almost every match.

Not really. From the main ones we have WWE, TNA and NJPW back in the 90's all we had is WWF and WCW so if anything it's growing. As for the fanbase? That's growing with the industry too due to expanding to different markets.

I wouldn't call said moves stupid. If you can pull it off then do it. The industry still has the "powerhouse" wrestlers too. No different from back in the day really on that front.

You had indies even in the 80s and 90s. The indy scene is *much* smaller now and fewer people are making an actual living than ever before. Keep in mind that Japan already *had* a thriving wrestling scene in the 80s.

Most of the moves are goofy, look contrived (since they stand there), and are unnecessarily dangerous.

The indy scene is going smaller yet more opportunities are available from the main promotions such as WWE with NXT and their own performance centres.

A good wrestler can pull off good looking moves without hurting themselves or others in most cases. Still I suppose it's a matter of high risk, high reward.

Compared to the 90s? No. The WWE's holdings today aren't anywhere near as big as a combination of the WWE and WCW, let alone the rest of the market. And most of the indies that are around now feature talent who basically work for gas money to get to the event.

More importantly, you play up NXT but literally all it did was replace FCW (which I'm not sure was break-even, but it was a WWE developmental) which, in turn, replaced OVW (which -- while partly functioning as a WWE developmental -- was also profitable as its own entity). The biggest difference between NXT and prior WWE developmental territories is that it has national coverage.

More a matter of high risk, little reward. Keep in mind that most of the indie guys break their bodies long before they even have the opportunity of being signed to a major company.

Plus, when you use these moves every fucking match, what value they might have had is killed. A suicide dive might be great if used sparingly as a major high spot, but there are many wrestlers now who seem to use it once or even several times per match-- so you're seeing it time and time again throughout the night. And most of the time the other wrestler is staring *right at* the guy getting ready to use the move. It strains all credulity that a guy wouldn't have the sense to get out of the way and let his opponent crash & burn.
