as someone whose been a night owl since i was born....this has always been something that's been the bane of my existence

having to fork over my control of my body for several hours so i can recharge and wander around in the weird poorly lit realm known as dream state

i just hate the whole feeling of being powerless and unable to really do anything while i slumber

the waking world moves on while i sleep and being unable to do anything is what terrifies me sometimes

if the house caught on fire or someone was about to kill you....there's a chance you might not wake up in time

it's this inability to move or do anything that i feel makes us victim to the unknown

but more than anything i feel like too much of our lives are simply spent being motionless all because our bodies demand rest and for whatever reason it never gets any easier going to sleep

at least for me anyways i dunno about you guys but i usually fret too much about sleeping because i don't feel dead in the morning yet at the same time again and again i pull all nighters which leave me sleeping like a vampire and wide awaken when nobody else is

ugh.....

Learn to lucid dream, then take charge of your dreams. I had one a while back, and it was really cool. I'd like to learn to have more.

That made me laugh more than it should have.

And sleep is great. I wish I got more of it.

Ever since the death of my wife, sleeping (and waking up) has almost been the most difficult thing for me to do. The flashbacks, the haunting thoughts and loneliness. It will keep me awake, or I'll have a dream that she is alive and get so excited and happy, until she tells me "This isn't real, baby. I'm just visiting you until you can join me in Heaven" with a sad smile, and I'll try to wrap my arms around her to "protect her" or "save her" and she will fade away (picture Obi-Wan/Yoda's death) and I fall through her, with only the necklace containing her ashes falling into her clothes instead. And then I wake up screaming and panicking and crying, and I'm fucked up for the rest of the day.

I do have a friend who will, since the wreck, often read me a book until I fall asleep. Which is very sweet of her, but in the grand scale of things, it's like taking a few Advils to deal with your arm being chainsawed off.

60% of my dreams since I was a little kid have been lucid. I didn't know that was rare until someone told me most people have to "try" to lucid dream, and I just thought it was normal all this time. I wouldn't say all dreams, but well over half for all of my life.
