Nope. Witcher 3 is the only WRPG Ive played really. I had some issues with it, but it was a pretty damn good game still.

It originally lost to The Last of Us, but then it barely beat it in a follow-up poll that deserved a final one-on-one poll yet didn't get it. It also barely beat Pokemon X/Y to get there.

Not that LoZ:LBW doesn't deserve it -- it''s super good! Still, it's the most controversial GotY-winner due to how close its wins are and TLoU not getting a fair shot to break its tie against it.

No, but for starters, when I tried watching The Witcher 1 as a 3-hour cutscene movie or whatever a few years back at people's suggestion I left feeling even more confused than when I began and when people were like "O_o how?" and I explained how, they were often like "oh yeah that's explained in the books" (as well as "oh they didn't include such-and-such scene" but I digress)

But anyway the real ticker here is that if a fictional story follows a character then I follow that story chronologically! It's just how I do, yo

Final Fantasy 2 doesn't exactly star Cloud

8

3 of them are collections of short stories and not really part of the main plot of the books though (well a couple of the short stories are, and quite a number of them (maybe even all?) get referenced in the games)

The 8th is the least connected to anything, anyway.

It was published well after the book series finished and doesn't really have much to do with the games unless they get referenced in the expansions for 3 (which I haven't played yet)

There are six novels. The last will be published in English this April.

Witcher 3 was developed with the understanding that most people playing it wouldn't be familiar with the world, and it does a great job familiarizing the player with the world. There are some aspects, particularly the cameos and the relationship between Geralt and Triss, that are richer with a fuller understanding.

"Mainline" is kind of a weird description. It's set pretty early in Geralt's personal timeline.

Geralt and Triss reuniting is one of the most heartfelt scenes in Witcher 3. Most of their plotline is about two ex-lovers being forced to work together years after their relationship ended, and the sense of loss and tension between them highlights what Witcher 3 does so well.

Witcher 3 is greatly enhanced by reading the books. It gives a lot of nods to the lore, more so than 1 & 2 did.

I haven't played FFXV but I'm confident I'd rank it last amongst this group.

I just have a biased opinion of Triss since her relationship with Geralt in the books is so one sided.

Oh, I definitely will. I basically never play PC games, so doing a mouse/keyboard thing for that game is going to cause me, among other things, a profound degree of frustration. Anything to make it easier (without wholesale shattering the game's intended play presentation ie cheats).
