I want to do yoga, but know nothing. I've realized instead of going to yoga classes, I can learn straight from the internet. I'm here to prompt for what resources a yoga master here if any, would recommend.

I personally think you'd have more motivation and more discipline if you just paid some yoga teach to teach you how to do it, instead of learning it from the internet and possibly quitting when you get bored or when it gets too hard. But of course, this is merely my own opinion, and such...

Not yet. Would like to.

Aside from being a good form of exercise, it's also a way to socialize and make new friends.

I've done yoga, tai chi and shaolin stretches/strengthening exercises.

Yoga is highly beneficial, any type of movement and stretching is, but having someone there to correct your form is paramount. You don't want to hurt yourself by over doing it or doing it incorrectly.

Just like martial arts or most physical disciplines, you really need an instructor. Trying to teach yourself from TV or internet is pretty useless without a teacher to correct your form.

Tried it. Its a good work out and helps with your circulation. Its boring though and they always go on and on about your damn chakra and energy waves and other nonsense, its annoying if youre like me and dont buy into that kind of thing.

Basic tips would be to maintain good back posture, practice a position gingerly before holding it for an extended period, avoid anything that causes sharp pain, and never bear your weight on your fingers or toes.

"Yoga is just stretching for douchebags."

I think of that quote every time I see anything about yoga now.
