I just want to stop and say that these are the same bastards who would call it white privilege to be monolingual. Imagine the nerve of white people to appropriate language and better be able to communicate with individuals from other countries. Disgusting. <_<

I actually had leftists laughing at me for using the term alt-left to describe far leaning leftists. They thought it was the funniest thing. The idea of there being an alt on their side was just unbelievable.

It's so annoying when people act like it's impossible to attack a subset of a group. That's the point in differentiating between the left and the alt left or the right and the alt right. But people -- especially those in these subgroups worth attacking -- try to make any attack on them an attack on the group as a whole.

More needs to be done to call out how wrong this type of far-left thinking is and how it hurts all of us liberals in general.

Also, these types of liberal have white people in a "damned if you do damned if you don't" type of situation. If white people didn't send their kids to learn a new language then they'd be written off as bigots who only want the evil white English language to reign supreme in their evil white America.

It's like how white people get shit for both "white flight" and "gentrification". I know that both issues cause problems, but the way certain leftists discuss or try to fix this problem leads to more division within America. They approach the problem the wrong way. It also leads to liberals in general be stereotyped as racist or self hating. It drives potential supporters away.

Here's a scenario I just made up, that explains the mindset:

Some altruist sets up a soup kitchen, supposedly to feed the indigent and hungry.
Somehow, the soup is actually pretty good.
People start showing up for the soup itself, instead of need or desperation.
The altruist in step one pitches a fit. Or rather, someone else pitches a fit, on the altruist's and indigents' behalf.

I guess my point is that committed partisans and ideologues have an outsized influence on politics because they are much more engaged than people who are relatively disinterested in such things.

It's not really super meaningful how many people are out there like that. There aren't a ton of conservatives who think shit like taxation is theft, either, but that sort of ideology clearly has a huge role in the modern right. It's just a silly thing to deflect with imo to say 'well me and my friends are vaguely leftists in a real noncommittal way and we never talk about it!'

The over all point the writer is making is that there are limited number of seats in these schools, and richer people are taking up the seats that could really benefit some poor student. While I don't know the headline , the meat of the issue is deeper .

I don't really talk about politics in real life and when I do, it's not usually race that comes up outside of a politician behaving like a racist. It's mostly just stuff like the environment, health care, LGBT stuff and religion. Nobody says things like "whites are all racist" or "whites shouldn't learn other languages because cultural appropriation." The average person is not BuzzFeed.

Because I live in Little Rock, Arkansas, which is around 50% black and I am involved in politics. There are definitely people like this, though I am not saying they are a significant portion of the constituency. And the real thing is, there is a spectrum between what you're calling a "normal person" and "fuck whitey"

For instance, cultural appropriation comes up all the time around here, specifically if you're talking about urban development and the attendant gentrification. People do care about that, even if they don't frame it as "don't learn my language"
