Bioshock Infinite might have been the first step for me. Noticing critics absolutely sucking its dick, while a large portion of fans didn't see what the fuss was all about (myself included) was the first big warning sign that I can remember.

Not too fond of games that require a constant online connection even for single player. Diablo III comes to mind, as well as Street Fighter V requiring a connection to earn points from single player modes.

I can't argue about it being in place for the sake of preventing cheating, but since I can't get internet where I live right now I can't really enjoy these games as much as I'd like to.

When Grand Theft Auto: Online took a year and a half to get Heists.

And then after that when everything began to cost a ridiculous amount of money to push Shark Cards.

Destiny also being a complete piece of shit didn't help. Bungie and Rockstar were like my OG's for 10 years when Capcom and Square went to shit.

Honestly, at this point the only thing I'm looking forward to is Nintendo games and I honestly would have never thought I'd be saying that again.

Every series I adored turning to garbage in the span of one gen was the first nail, Monster Hunter moving to PS4 was the final.

For me personally; VR if it goes mainstream and pushes out traditional controllers. It's just not something I want to get into.

Edit: Also it seems the lack of local co-op on games. It's not too prevelant. But if a game I might consider buying has online co-op only I'm not buying it. Division was a recent example.

i started getting pretty fed up with gaming last gen when the motion control gimmick was in full swing and everyone was making CoD clones, but it really hit me this gen.i was playing mortal kombat X and I was at the main menu, and all of a sudden it hit me that it didn't look like a video game menu but rather a digital storefront (loaded with ads about new and upcoming DLC, costumes, etc).

We aren't there yet but we never will be if we don't support the steps taken to get there.

DLC and the increasingly fragile and complex nature of hardware resulting in inexplicable failures like RRoD / YLoD. I suspect the latter is planned obsolesce to force consumers to upgrade when the next generation becomes available.

I don't play anything past sixth generation, not even mobile.

Online passes and season passes for multiplayer maps dividing the player bases sucked. It arguably helped kill off some communities that may have otherwise thrived.

This is irritation too. I was going to buy The Division until I realized it had no local co-op.

It's not like I'd be mad if gaming went totally VR. Just like I abandoned modern comic books 7 or 8 years ago; there's plenty of old stuff to keep me entertained. As long as the physical media are still available readily. Which celebrating all things "retro" doesn't seem to be a problem in society as of now.

Preorder bonuses. I miss the old days of the preorder being like a demo of the game rather than the best looking armor or weapons in the game.

The worst offender for me was Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. The preorder was Juggernaut. The only way to get him was to preorder.

Including extra difficulty modes is literally the perfect answer though. More inclusive and players who want a challenge will still find it. I never pick easy in games with difficulty but it's never triggered me either. That's a really childish and tryhard elitist thing to be upset about tbh.
