I know what some of you are gonna say: new year's resolutions are stupid, why not always try improving yourself, etc. But for those of you who have any, what are they?

Mine are no fast food and no soda. Definitely no soda, although "fast food" is a bit of a grey area and I know I'll probably end up eating it sometimes. Like if I'm traveling or something, no biggie, but I gotta stop eating it as a regular meal.

I failed mine, and mine was just a task - I still have 3 whatever days to do it, and I probably won't

So, nothing - screw it!

This is something I should do but the "no" goals are easier. I mean, it's easy to tell when you've succeeded at not doing something. Setting resolutions based around achievements (even quantifiable ones) is just setting myself up for failure

I think I'm going to reprise last year's failed one of biking more than 3000 km total. I should try to get back into flossing regularly, too.

Improving yourself is usually a matter of setting goals, and the start of a new year is arbitrarily a reasonable time to set some new ones.

Mine is rather silly one, but it's to read more and buy more books and to play less and buy less video games. Another is to get my car fixed up since it's officially my first car and it came from a friend that has a lot of good memories with it, so I wanna fix it up to almost new condition to make her happy and to give myself a sense of accomplishment.

The way I see it, the new year is also a good time to cut off from the indulgences you tend to fall into from the holidays (i.e. drinking a lot and eating a lot of sweets). It's a good time to go back to work. I think most people who work tend to not use that time off for the most productive things. Or, if you're like me and don't have a job, you can't really do much since nobody is doing any hiring activities at this time. I've been playing way more video games lately, but I'll put a stop to that once the calendar rolls over.

I don't know if that made sense. It's not like hitting reset is a resolution per se, but you get the excesses out of your system for a while before everyone's routines return to normal. It makes sense if you have a goal revolving around cutting something out, i.e. this is the time to have that "one last [whatever]".
