read another article about teens getting arrested for murder for throwing shit off an overpass and killing someone

i just don't get it. 5 teens JUST got arrested for that like last month and it made national news.

why do they do stuff like this? there is literally no other outcome to that than hurting someone or causing severe property damage.

it just makes me so fucking annoyed.

Back in my hometown about a decade ago they had to install suicide fences on all the overpass bridges since jumping on to traffic on I-95 had become a popular suicide method. Then the brother of a guy I worked with jumped off the 9th floor of the mall instead.

this goes beyond dumb shit. dumb shit is hanging out at a strip mall with your friends on a friday night roaming around being little annoying assholes. dumb shit is getting drunk at a high school party until you're sick.

there is literally no other logical outcome from throwing heavy items off an overpass other than to kill/maim or cause serious property damage. that's not dumb shit, that's reckless shit.

they have those on a lot of overpasses where i live too

i remember one time at the park throwing medium sizes like ten pound rocks off the bridge into the mini lake below. nobody was down there and nobody got hurt but a cop bitched my friend and i out because thlse rocks are the foundation for the mini bridge.

I think the mentality here is they want to make an impact (literally). If you can't make a large positive change, then I guess they are ok with making a negative one. They feel like they have no power, or even control of their own lives so they decide to do something that will drastically change (or end) someone else's life.

I doubt it's just "for fun" or due to being bored. You don't throw heavy things into traffic without some idea that you might kill someone.

I'm not a fan of jail for life etc, so yeah, even if they are kids and they do something like that, I say kill em, or lock em up in a facility where they work for the rest of their lives (enough to pay for the costs), or give them the choice of assisted suicide at any point.

I believe anyone with a jail/prison term over 2 years should have that right.
