Trump won because enough people were sick and tired of the establishment and how it's very obviously trying to shove things certain things down their throats and were obviously trying to get Hillary to win from the very beginning.

Frankly, what Trump was doing didn't really matter. People weren't voting for Trump, they were voting against the establishment.

I will say that in many ways he's still not the establishment, but the only unusual things he's bringing are a blatant lack of professionalism/composure and dangerous far right politics. AKA exactly the stuff Hillary voters warned everyone about

That makes sense, considering he didn't run on policy. He ran on cult of personality.

This. Very few of the arguments made for or against Trump had anything to do with his policy, with the notable exception of the wall. He mostly ran on character and platitudes.

Technically what matters is what's said before it, not after it. And before it *often* at least tangentially deals with policy.

Like I said in the past, he got rid of the Washington insiders -- just like he promised -- and replaced them with people so outside that they might not even have any business being inside. We have Ben Carson running the HUD, for instance.

He ran on and got the most attention for immigration enforcement, jobs, trade deals, anti-ACA, the "Muslim" ban, tax reform, and anti-establishment platforms. While many of the criticisms against him had nothing to do with policy, most of his support firmly revolved around policy. Honestly, jobs/economy and immigration more than anything got him a base. And, to some extent, *many* of his positions were similar to what his democratic rivals were running on -- such as the system leaving people behind.

Of those promises, he passed tax reform, he killed the individual mandate (which he had specifically promised albeit it's part of tax reform; it also may mean the end of the ACA), he's kinda got the "Muslim" ban going, and he's placed mostly anti-establishment candidates. He's absolutely failed to make progress on the wall -- his signature promise, which will likely hurt him if he seeks re-election (which he might not) -- and he hasn't really done much with trade deals yet. Jobs and the economy have improved somewhat, but it's hard to say whether his policy (because there hasn't been much) has directly affected that although many of his public platforms have inspired investor confidence and encouraged business.
