Would you move to a tiny town if they offered to pay you to live there?

Towns in rural most likely conservative areas in America are attempting to revive their anemic communities by offering INCENTIVES for people to move to their tiny community!!

Cash Grants, Student Loan pay offs and free land giveaways are some of the offers to a younger generation of Americans looking to leave the big city and hoping to live in a small town with 80,000 worth of goodies!!

Rural america compassess 75% of the country but only 16% of the population, the lowest in the nation's history.

54% of the population in 1910 lived in rural areas, now only 19% live in them.

The complicated answer for the drop boils down to rural Americans facing fewer opportunities following technological advancement and consolidation in the agricultural industry

In the increasingly globalized world where free trade and competition from foreign markets created limited options for americans wanting a more quiet life.

Young people in rural areas are pulled into urban areas whey they get married and have children and don't return to the rural roots

Some incentives these small towns are offering include Harmony, Minnesota with a population of 1020 with the largest amish community is offering a cash rebate program worth 5000-12000 with no restrictions on age or income level. Marne, Iowa is offering FREE LAND to build a house but only has 120 residents. Tribute Kansas is willing to pay 15,000 worth of student loans but only has a population of 55. Curtis, Nebraska has lots of free land with a population of 896. Baltimore, Maryland, a surprise on the list offers 5000 forgivable 5 year loan with 620,000 residents. New Haven, Connecticut gives new homeowners 80,000 worth of perks..

Would you ever move to a small tiny town if they offered you incentives? let's see if people would

I would prefer to live in a small, quiet town. So how much free land does Marne and Curtis offer?

Part of that is that the definition of "urban" has changed. A lot of urban areas are closer to rural than what people think of as truly urban.

~200k is the population sweet spot for me - big enough to attract the housing development and corporate presence yet small enough that the criminal element is minimal.

Perhaps what he means is that the choices will be very limited hence he'd be forced to settle on second best. And no one wants that. In the end it all depends on how we define how large or small the selection pool is. For some people smaller communities will provide ample opportunities to date, while others, the opposite.

They could be gay. You're choices for a gay relationship are very limited in rural areas.

I used to live in a rural area as a kid. Then the nearby city gobbled it up and now it is basically a dumping ground for upper class citizens looking to have big houses and lots of land. I mean the population growth was about 50% for a while, but thankfully it dropped to a more reasonable 10 - 15%

And just for reference, 90% of houses in the town were built in the last 10 years.

Seeing as you are gamefaqs.

Youd have like 500kb satellite internet that costed 90 bucks a month and no cell phone reception.

Youd also have to travel miles to the nearest grocery store and restaurant

Nah. I have pet parrots, and vets for them are scarce enough as it is, and I get too emotional over animals to be able to do the "take them out back and shoot them" thing when they're sick.

Also I gotta have my internet, and things to do outside of home besides wander around in coyote territory.
