xD...the PoTD boards has jokes this Holiday Weekend...

But I'm also writing my 1st eBook/Graphic Novel as well. An interesting challenge for me, since when I was younger I never like writing much, let alone an entire book.

I have a friend that has been writing and trying to get published for years, he's God awful. We used up write derivative power fantasy anime type shit together in high school and his writing never moved beyond that.

Kind of. I was an editor/contributor for a now-defunct gaming website for a couple of years. We got lots of free stuff, but there was very little cash flow. It died because I quit and most of the others had English skills on par with Ricky from TPB, so without me fixing all the articles, it had no chance to be anything but a laughing stock.

Technically? Yes. In terms of sitting down and actually writing on a regular basis? Nope.

I went to school for English and now I'm working at a burger joint; it isn't the most ideal situation.

Yes, I most certainly am a writer; one with more than a couple dozen projects in the works. i need to finish one or two, three tops, as soon as I am able so that I can sell their transcripts or otherwise get them published. Then I can go back and work on the others.

Well, there are a million websites out there and tons of services which pay for content, in addition to fiction writing. If somebody runs a blog, technically they're a writer even if they never see a dime for their efforts.

Personally, I've occasionally derived income from writing so I feel more comfortable describing myself as a writer than I would if I was merely an aspiring novelist or something.

I've published two books with a female superhero; so I guess that would make me a writer as well. That and I've had a few letters published in the editorial section of a couple of newspapers (one in Illinois and one in Florida), a couple of fiction short stories and one nonfiction short in an e-zine.

Yep, I write mostly philosophy articles and poetry. Also a short story every now and then.

For those of you who write fiction, do you find it difficult to maintain concentration on big projects like novels? I can't imagine having the patience to spend a significant amount of time per day on a novel unless I was really invested in the plot.

I'm mostly focusing on short stories and poetry right now. I do have about 20% of a YA novel but I couldn't really make the rest come together so I shelved it for now. I may not even return to it since it's just not really what I feel like I want to do right now. But I do want to finish a novel one day.

Okay interesting (good to know there is at least one other poet here too!). Yeah I guess you can always come back to it in however many months if the mood strikes you. I made the mistake recently of not finishing a novella. Coming back to it months later makes it so much more difficult to continue from where you left off. Now I'm stuck trying to remember what the protagonist was doing and where the action was headed. It's an absolute nightmare.

Aspiring, yes. I write in my spare time, of which I have very little these days.

At the beginning of the year I started work on my first major novel. Wrote around 80k words and wound up dumping the entire story. I don't want to (attempt to) publish something that I'm not proud of, so I often trash stories and start anew. So many words that no one will ever read. It's all good, since I learn from each attempt and can see myself improving with each new story.

I also write intentionally bad and poorly-written fanfiction every now and then, just to get a chuckle out of the hateful comments. It's a guilty pleasure of mine.
