I see most gamers really only play and talk about the newest PS4/Xbox One/PC games but there are a lot of amazing 80's and 90's games out there. Family members and girlfriends/boyfriends that don't play games may think they look old and stupid but true games know better.

This site has a ton of fans of older stuff, especially nintendo and squaresoft fans.

Almost every game I play these days are indie games. Some of them are retro. I don't know why anyone would be embarrassed about that.

No, but I suspect that my 3DS, which is the only current system I have, will also be the last system I'll ever buy,* so I wonder if when it stops being current I'll be embarrassed to come here.

The only time I've ever felt embarrassed playing a game is when it's something like DOA Xtreme. My then-girlfriend bought the 360 version and was shocked that I actually wanted to play it. I'm like "are you really so surprised?" In all seriousness though, the social aspects and collecting stuff were what held my attention. Anything involving collecting usable items or conquering a map = addicted.

I played some Unreal Tournament 2004 online a few days ago, surprised at how active online it still is and I had more fun with it than I did most modern FPS.
I'm also playing a 1995 DOS Star Wars FPS, Star Wars Dark Forces. It's fun but holy hell the controls are fucked. --- ~Nintendo 64. Get N or Get out. Coming Fall 1996~ ... Copied to Clipboard!
