Discovering this site after scouring The Unofficial World of Nintendo for codes and glitches. I didn't know GFAQs existed until one of my friends casually brought it up one day. This was decades ago when my only Internet access was through my high school's library.

Middle school. Computer class homeroom. Friend tells me to check out gamefaqs. Finally found out that this was where one of my other friends got his shark cheat codes with FFVII that he decided to sell to people. I think a year or two into gfaqs, found out that one of the FFVII guide writers died in a motorcycle accident. Also used the site for runescape.

When I was sick from school one day I went with my dad to his office. I wanted to print part of a guide for OoT so I could do some stuff when I got home. I messed up the print selection and ended up printing the 300+ page document. I didn't find out until one of my dad's partners from the law firm came over to his office with the stack of papers realizing it was mine. We had a good laugh about it and no one really cared.

I remember looking on this website back in the early 2000's at least - that's when I would've been in middle school. It was just for FAQs or cheats. N64 and GameCube stuff. My older brother put me on to it. Can't really pinpoint which FAQ was first though. I do remember my two favorite writers - @marshmallow and @metroidmoo. Very funny and insightful writers.

With the boards, I just came on here with the Wii U to try and get more information about it.

That's the first thing I really remember, but I know I knew about the site for years before that.

Boardwise, the Golden Sun and TLA boards were my main boards in my earliest days with an account. GS3 speculation, e3 hype every year, the board regulars when I was a newbie reminiscing about the wink wink inn topics.

Back when my account wasn't called "Sayoria", I was on the PS3 board for Yakuza 3 before it came out in America. There was a guy there named "ThePatrick" who knew Japanese and helped us through all of the Japanese version of the game.... leading many of us to the platinum trophy.

I remember contributing a portion he even credited me for in his walkthrough on how to get by Answer x Answer and I think my old account name is still there today.

I probably should test my japanese skills on AnxAn when I am done with all of these JP courses.

But yeah, I loved talking with all of them and walking each other through it!

I fell down a rabbit hole of fake cheat code websites looking for an Aeris revival code and this was one of the sites I found, which did not have any fake codes.

Also I remember lurking a lot just reading random boards. There was this one with a guy talking to a girl who wanted to send him a game even though they just met in that topic. It went on for like 5 pages. Later on I found out he was banned for talking to himself on different accounts.

that is one of the reasons I stuck with this site, when so many others lied to me, this one had rarely if ever steered me wrong.

Found the site back in 1998 trying to learn UMK3 fatalities. The first time i used the board there was a topic on the Pokemon Ruby board asking who Ash's father was.

Getting on in 2002 and looking through the Sega Genesis category to find out the name of an old game that I played back in the day that had the word Jam in it. Found out that it was Toejam & Earl, but it was the sequel and I found out about the original's existence.

CyricZ had one of the most amazing and comprehensive FAQs I'd ever seen for that game, I used it constantly as a guide and reference. It's crazy how he and a few others are still around to this day.

Edit: I also remember the chat rooms. Chat rooms in general seems like such a foreign/ancient concept now. Even instant messaging is dead.

facebook sorta has instant messaging. its just integrated into the rest of the site itself. I mean it feels pretty similar to how instant messaging was back in the day for me anyhow. so i'd say it evolved more so than it died.
