I mean he has always been a silly character but in Super he thinks everything is a game, even when the fate of the universe is in the balance.

It's kinda weird going back to the Freeza and Cell Saga Goku and Goku now in Super. DBZ Goku seemed more hero-like and knew the seriousness of situations, the only time he got like that in Super was against Goku Black.

Goku from Saiyan Saga to Cell Saga is straight up pinnacle of Lawful Good, serious hero character.

From Buu Saga through Super, he's an intergalactic warrior clown who asks people, 'HEY YOU WANNA FIGHT', and takes responsibility for nothing.

Even in the cell saga, his choice to give cell a senzu so Gohan could "get stronger" is already falling into that territory.

tbh, at least since fighting Jiren he's gone back to at least take things as seriously as in the later parts of the black saga, so that's a plus I guess, but I don't like the whole "goku is tired, oh wait, he's now using ssjbkk" stuff.

In Super, ki is basically the dark souls stamina meter, and transforming takes a chunk of stamina to initiate and maintain. The idea is Goku requires varying levels of stamina to transform, so he's constantly using the lowest transformation possible to conserve for bigger fights, and only bursting the better forms to avoid having to sustain it. When they're saying he's tired, they mean he doesn't have the ki (stamina) to fully transform and maintain that in a sustained fight.

Apparently it's the English translation that made goku seem more adult and heroic rather than childish as he was in the original Japanese translation.
