in my culture, kneeling symbolizes submission. so if someone kneeling for the National Anthem, it looks just like they are fully submitted to the Nation. why the heck it means the opposite in the US?

common us flag decorum demands that us citizens and people attending events alike stand for the national anthem, facing the flag if present; face the direction of the music otherwise.

generally, people are asked to stand beforehand specifically by an announcer present at the games.

so if you kneel instead you're doing something else, that's not quite standing but you're drawing attention

i don't follow why these things have to be connected

they can protest two different things
sometimes two different things can affect people at once

in fact, if you can't see how police brutality and social inequality are connected, then well you might be

Its creating a false equivalence. Protesting police brutality would be valid if it actually happened and wasnt dealt with satisfactorily. But that will never make protesting "manspreading" or "social inequality" valid. And the fact they are protesting that brings down their entire effort

while it's obviously done to call an attention, the nature of kneeling itself is not defiant toward the object it faced. so why the heck people treating it as unpatriotic?
heck, praying while kneeling seen as more solemn than praying while standing.

It doesn't, A vet told Keap he should kneel because he could protest while still respecting the flag. But since republicans are racist blew their top.

You can literally find tons of pictures for vets kneeling at the graves of the fallen . Yet people suggest that it is so horrible when black people do it .

It sure does grab attention but that doesn't validate the action. Many people see protesting during the national anthem as inflammatory, disrespectful, trolling, etc. regardless of the cause.

It's a ritual to demonstrate unity. Say what you will about it "bringing attention to blah blah blah", first and foremost the protester is signalling that they stand (or kneel) apart from everyone else. They won't have it. They won't respect the custom. Their crusade is more important. That's the message they want to send.

Problem is for them, the national anthem transcends their selfish desires. Others might have respect for them and a more open willingness to hear them out if they at least showed any semblance of patriotism and appreciation for what makes this nation precious. If they're not patriotic at all then no one should give a goddamn shit about whatever they have to say. We all kind of take what we have for granted and it's one of the very few ways we all come together to count our blessings and show respect for one of the greatest nations in the world.

Showing respect matters.

National unity is in such short supply these days and it ought to be encouraged more despite political differences because we're all in this together, or at least this country use to be. Find an appropriate and mature avenue for your concerns if it's that important to you. Write it out and release it any way you can. As we tell children, USE YOUR WORDS.

I don't think the large reason why people are upset about players kneeling during the anthem has nothing to do with racism, because the kneeling only became a problem when people and teams besides Kaepernick started doing it.

Americans are either part of identity politics or they're tired of identity politics. Kneeling during the national anthem isn't something people want to deal with during an event they want to enjoy, because it's bringing identity politics to it.

I know that I'm personally tired of them myself. Awareness has been raised for almost 7 years and it's time for them to all grow up, get off their college campuses, and get a real life.

Sounds like the time I had off from work I figured I'd do some shoppingat my local mall. As I was shopping, I felt the 3 redbulls I drank begging to leave my body and I rushed towards the bathroom.

I was at the urinal peeing, minding my own business, when I heard grunts and a light plopping noise from one of the stalls. I immediately stopped peeing, mid-stream (no ordinary task). Something didn't sound right.

I heard another grunt and another light plop and I realized this grunt was no ordinary grunt. Thankfully, I had recorded all the grunts on my phone, and I quickly ran them through an app I had downloaded a few days ago, Male Vocal Pattern Analyzer Lite (I'm not going to buy the full version lol). I analyzed the pitch and tone and realized that something was a little off - it did not match up with the voice patterns in the database.

I immediately put away my penis and sprinted over to the stall. I kicked in the door with all my might and the door swung back, hitting the side of the stall with a huge THUD. "DUMP POLICE!" I hollered, forcing my way into the stall. On the toilet sat a man taking what looked to be squeezing out a very hard BM, probably due to weeks of poor hydration and fiber intake.

"I'm sorry sir," I said to the man, sheathing my tanto and bowing in respect. "I noticed your vocal patterns were a little off and I-" I stopped speaking mid sentence. As I went down to gaze at his penis, I noticed that there was nothing there. Nothing.

My blood ran cold and the color drained out of my face. It all made sense now. This was no regular man - this was a trans man. I had heard rumors of these men years ago, hushed stories around the campfire of people biologically born as one sex who experienced a different gender identity. I remember laughing it off, thinking that there could never possibly be anyone different than me, since, as many of you know, I am a huge Amiibo collector.

But here I was, face to face with a transman. The men's room, a room I once called a restroom, no longer was a safe space where I could freely and openly communicate with my fellow man about how much corn was in our bowel movements - the restroom had become perverted, morphed from a safe haven for men to just a place where people pee and poop and then leave when they're done to go about their day.

I turned to run, but the man had blocked the exit to the restroom. I tried to unsheath my tanto, but the man utilized his whip-like tongue to knock it out my hand. He stood over me, prepared to deliver the killing blow.

Suddenly, from out of nowhere, a shot rang out and the man dropped to the floor and disintegrated into a green slime. Emerging from the last stall was none other than Jeff "Puff Puff I'll Pass" Sessions. He rammed another silver bullet into his rifle, fired at the goo to ensure his kill, and then helped me up.

"You did a great deed here, Mr. Shinobi," Jeff said. "Your policing of this bathroom has allowed me to peacefully take one of the most powerful BMs of my life. The poop hit the water with such force that the toilet water acted as a sort of makeshift bidet, allowing me to take a messy s*** but not even have to wipe. A dump like that comes once in a lifetime, and your good deed will not go unnoticed."

Jeff "Puff Puff I'll Pass" Sessions reached into his fanny pack, pulled out a $25 Best Buy Gift Card, and handed it to me. "Use this on anything you like at over 1,900 Best Buy locations worldwide, or on their website, which offers a convenient shopping experience from the comfort of your own home." With that, Jeff gave me a kiss on the cheek and left the mens' room. I ran out to remind him to wash his hands, but like that, he was gone.

The KSU cheerleaders will go down in civil rights history, said Susan Raines, who is a professor of conflict management at the school. What little power they had made a difference, and that should be a lesson to all of us.

They won't be a footnote. They're not a part of Civil Rights history. They're a part of an ongoing troll campaign. It's just like flag burners in the 1960s. People will remember that it happened, but they won't be viewed favorably or seen as carrying any great significance beyond violating a social norm.
