The announcement, which seems to have largely flown under the radar of both the media and Twitters user base, came as part of a November update to Twitters safety policies, when the site added a crucial clause to its terms of service:

You also may not affiliate with organizations that whether by their own statements or activity both on and off the platform use or promote violence against civilians to further their causes. We will begin enforcing this rule around affiliation with such organizations on December 18, 2017.

cultural marxists generally don't advocate violence and certainly shouldn't be banned from twitter

i find them a different sort of insane from leninist marxists personally and i was responding to your use of the 'insane' qualifier rather than the 'dangerous and needing to have their free speech reigned in for public safety' qualifier

you were the one to bring up communists, though--i simply noted that such a blanket ban would be more difficult than nazis since they're not as neatly organized.

It's a terrible precedent. Private companies like Twitter can barely even be considered "private" today.. For Christ's sake, it is the platform by which hundreds of millions of people hear what the President has to say.

A private company with that sort of influence should not have this power to limit speech. They aren't qualified to determine what is a hate group or not. And what do they mean by "violent"? It is quite open to interpretation.

Banning hate groups from a private platform is not a free speech violation. Those Nazis are allowed to start their own site and say whatever they want.

Like I said above, it's not the policy that's the issue, it's that Twitter doesn't always enforce their policies consistently when political ideology is involved. For example:
