In my 11 years of doing it the heaviest single items were 50 pound bags of onions and potatoes. The heaviest pallets I got would be full pallets of potatoes

Heavy lifting?

I was working on a job and we had a shipment of W4 steel arrive. It weighs 13 pounds per foot, and we had 20 and 30 foot sections. So the 20 foot sections weighed 260 pounds and the 30 foot sections weighed 390 pounds. So i put three guys on the 20 foot sections, and five guys on the 30 foot sections, no problem. The guys on the 30 foot sections started complaining to me that it was too much for five guys. I told them to quit their bitching and get it done. As it turns out, they were actually FORTY foot sections and didn't weigh 390 pounds, they weighed 520 pounds each. I didn't actually tell them that.

Yeah but the thing is I can only stack heavy piles of potatoes so fast. My supervisor wants me to be like a speedy machine. I'm skinny as fuck I can't handle this lol.

Keeping the job but the assistant manager said they can transfer me to the deli if I want which I think would be a better fit for me tbh

You still have to lift it from the cart to the shelf

I don't think he's saying he's carrying 50 pound potato bags across the whole store 1 at a time

Then we're back to the free workout scenario. Having thrown literal tons of product around that arrived in 50lb bags I can confirm that you'll develop the strength to do it regularly. :P

Are we playing "Spot the guy who doesn't know shit about musculoskeletal injuries and workplace laws"? There's a reason first world countries have laws related to working loads, and 50 lbs tends to be the absolute MAXIMUM you're allowed to lift, and only if it's an infrequent load.

However, spineless bitches like you who are too scared to speak up and protect yourself, will continue the problem with enforcement and just get long term, strain-related injuries, reducing your quality of life and wasting healthcare time and money because you're dumb.

Yep, those were the worst. Along with big bulky boxes of cabbage. Those goddamn cabbage boxes NEVER hold. It's ridiculous.

Something that a lot of you may not be considering as well is that you're also working in a cooler for a good percentage of the time. Many of the produce products are caked in ice by the people that package them as well, which can lead to some very numb fingers. If you're throwing a truck, it can get very tiring no matter how long you've been doing it for, especially since you have to rotate produce. So if you got 3 bags of onions in and have 3 bags already back there, depending on the circumstances you might have to actually move all 6 bags in many cases. Multiply that by every product and you can see why it's not so easy and in the 6 years I was there, we were simply unable to ever keep a dedicated truck guy for a long period of time.
