Rogue*

just saw The Last Jedi this morning. I was blown away. I have very few complaints and it's just such a great movie I can't believe people are so torn about it.

That's the worst one of the prequels though. No way Last Jedi should be lower on the list than that.

It would be nice if they would make more some day, but alas, we will just have to enjoy the greatness of the trilogy.

So far, the only SW film I like less than TFA was maybe TPM. However, I haven't seen RO and TLJ.

Kek. But yeah, that's kinda how it goes since the OT was so much better than everything else they've done.

Its my least favorite. The characters were boring, I can only really remember Jyn as far as names go. Stuff on Jeda or whatever that planet was called was boring, rainy planet was boring, the last half hour with Scarif was good. But overall I just dont get excited about watching that one.

Me too, I thought it was way better than The Force Awakens, especially since we got to focus on a character that wasn't a jedi.

5 > 4 > 6 > 7 > 3 > 8 > R1 > 1 > 2

I honestly think Last Jedi is probably the worst of the "good" Star Wars movies. It has a lot of flaws. Like, I don't think there's a more flawed Star Wars movie that isn't outright bad. There's just too many plot holes / inconsistencies / overly convenient plot devices. Too many things happen too conveniently that it starts to dip into poor writing territory. Too many characters / plot lines are inconsistent or poorly thought out and the overall pacing just drags at times.

That's not to say I didn't like it. It has some interesting ideas and good visuals. There's some badass moments and funny scenes / interesting dialogue. But overall, I just left feeling (slightly) disappointed. Maybe on a second viewing my opinion will change, but right now it is what it is.

ANH > RotJ > ESB > R1 > FA > RotS > AotC > PM.

Yea. I didn't like Empire. I'm evil. We all know this. Anyways, I liked A New Hope for obvious reasons and RotJ featured the conclusion along with some pretty decent action scenes. Empire was decent (Hoth was fun and the battle in Bespin was cool) but I really hated the downer ending. I think a lot of people have come to believe, stupidly, that 'downer ending' = 'good story'. R1 was pretty much just a dumb action flick. I kinda wish that had just been it. A group of people not necessarily part of the rebellion fighting against the Empire. FA was... a thing. I mean, it was a retrend of ANH and I feel like Rei was too sue-ish and it had a bit too much going on plot-wise and so-forth, but it also wasn't bad by any means. I think the best way to describe it is like a fly banging his head against glass trying to reach a delicious pastery where the glass is stuff like Rei's sudden skill with the force. RotS felt like a Star Wars movie, AotC was a sci-fi action flick with Star Wars on it (and I think they made it soley to make EU stuff), and PM...

Well...

It had ideas.

I can see your opinion, but one of the things you need to realize about the downer ending to Empire is, movies NEVER ended like that back then. It was a bold move and it was like the ultimate exclamation point at the end of a great movie. This movie pretty much created / popularized the downer ending.

I hated rogue one. The writing and characters were garbage. Only the combat scenes (especially space battles) were good.
Episode 7 had the opposite problem. The writing was fairly good but the action was garbage (storm troopers still missed everything (honestly I thought this was just Lucas shit design but its STILL present??), the air combat had one guy kill like 13 enemies in 30 seconds. Ray, completely untrained, defeated Kylo, wtf?).

So with those two complaints in mind, how do you think Ill like episode 8?

5>4>6>RO>3>7>2>1>8.

There was literally nothing that I truly enjoyed about eight and it matched the total amount of boring minutes as 1 and 2.

Spoilers: The entire casino scene was pointless and I can't believe they decided Rose should have that much screen time. Both her and Finn's side adventure was really boring. Lots of other mediocre stuff and the lack of a compelling villain or anything just made it the worst in my opinion.

I'm not even a huge Star Wars fan (I am one, just not a huge one) and I totally agree. Maybe I still accept the prequels, despite their being terrible, because it was a story almost always intended to be told. But 7, 8, and Rogue One? Just feels like a fan fiction. The movies were over with 6, the conflict was resolved, anything past them just feels forced.

That said, putting the Star Wars name aside, 8 just wasn't an enjoyable movie at all. Neither was Rogue One. 7 was ok.

I didn't even like the fight with the elites, I'm assuming that's the guys in red. It was just wiping out a bunch of faceless soldiers. I just kept asking "Why should I care?" I agree Snoke was memorable, until he got axed for whatever reason. I get what they did, Snoke was sensing Ren's intentions, which were to destroy his real enemy, Snoke just didn't realize he was that enemy, but it was still totally stupid. Snoke actually commanded a presence on screen with all his creepy ways of throwing Rey around the room, he was starting to win me over as an intimidating villain. But now we're stuck with the whining baby that really really wants to be Darth Vader. It was a bad movie, a bad Star Wars movie, and a bad Force Awakens sequel. The trifecta.

Well sure. I'm not an expert in movies of that time so I can't really say, but I'm willing to accept that. It doesn't, however, explain why people have come to equate it with a story being 'good' especially if it has moral 'ambiguity' (I.E. A bunch of space-nazi's who just so happen to run puppy orphanages because Space Hitler likes dogs, or Space Jesus offering peace, love, and salvation to all... except the Glarblonians. Because fuck the Glarbonians.). Obviously a downer ending can be GOOD (It's Chinatown.) but the seeming automatic association between 'downer' and 'good' is stupid.

Wow I loved Rogue One; didn't think that'd be such an unpopular opinion. K2-SO and Chirrut were fantastic, and I liked Jyn too.

5 > RO > 4 = 6 > 7 > 8 > 3 > 1 > 2.

I say this as someone who doesn't hate the prequels; I did genuinely enjoy both 7 and 8 a whole lot. Can't say I honestly have complaints about 7 but it's a pretty inoffensive movie... 8 really did the opposite of that and there was something admirable about that all throughout.
