Launching with $50 of character DLC and a stripped down roster to incentivise it.

I'll buy it a discount later hopefully, but buying it at launch seems ridiculous, which is why I cancelled.

I dunno about Shadow of War because that game seems like kind of a mess (also EA), but Dark souls 3 didn't launch at $85. The content they sold you later wasn't 100% done and readily available on launch day, it was stuff they worked on after release. The Fighterz characters are available on release day, it's just locked content. It's like if you bought Smash Bros, and all the locked characters were behind a $50 paywall instead of unlockable.

Believe what you will. Namco Bandai is already established as one of the grossest publishers in regards to DLC, no reason to think they won't screw up a huge release like this.

How many of the slots are just the same characters in different modes? Super Saiyan Goku, Blue Goku, and Goku are separate characters on the select screen. Rumors are that 2 of the DLC characters are early series Vegeta and Early series Goku.

the 2 blues and adult gohan

the blues have different movesets and gohan at least has a unique mode (not sure on his moveset)

There is 0 chance the 8 new characters are complete and locked out to raise the price. GG Xrd launched with like 16 characters. This game has 25 playable and a ton of extra animated characters too. Watch this to see what goes into making each animation for each character in these games:

The DLC characters are like $4 each. Smash characters aren't even that cheap.
