I thought Black people were treated pretty good there. At least, better than in other Asian countries.

They're probably scared of being shot or stabbed so they don't do anything dickish like they would with a wimpy whiteboi, but traditional japanese parents would disown you for even thinking about marrying an african american brotha.

Life is pretty rough in Japan. You've got the government taxing you out the ass in order to pay for Gundam construction. They have to constantly rebuild from Godzilla attacks. If you commit a petty crime you'll be killed by some high schooler with a magic notebook. If you're in high school you're saving the world every other week. It's a crazy place to live.

In fairness to the people of Japan, most of their racism stems from simple lack of understanding and experience regarding foreigners. Rarely does it come from a place of actual hatred. Still, the reaction of any individual can change depending on how much you, being a foreigner, impact them.

Japan is also very expensive to live in. If it's not a locally grown or produced thing, get ready to pay out the booty. And even if it's local, it's hella expensive

Roads are hella narrow. Unless you drive regularly in NYC or Chicago, you won't be having a good time. Parking spaces tiny.

Food is not as good as you'd expect.

Nobody fucking speaks English.

I was in Japan for three weeks and found them the most genuinely compassionate and kind people I've ever encountered, and I made friends I still talk to.

I think it's more they have a certain culture, and if you're a loud jerk, no one will like you. Unlike America, where it's like 40% loud jerks

My uncle lived in Japan for years and had no difficulties, though he was pretty well groomed for it, I imagine, having been raised by extremely strict parents.

I'd imagine not. There's very little diversity there so if you're not Japanese you kind of stand out. And you need to speak the language, and shit is expensive in the cities. But I dunno, if you're a mega weeb then maybe it's heaven.
