Board 8 > Anyone ever play the Front Mission series?

I had heard a lot about these games for their unique/atmospheric stories, but I was surprised to learn that the vast majority of the games were never even released in the US.

I assume it's best to try to play the translations in order since they are all connected?

I played 1, 3, and 4 ages ago, and IIRC they take place in the same world but aren't really connected story-wise. Obviously I enjoyed them (my account name is from FM3), just be prepared 3 is really long, especially if you play both storylines.

snes one is good, as is the ds remake of it. 4 was enjoyable when i played it however many years ago, not sure how it holds up

I played 1 and 3. The first one was decent on the DS, but I loved Front Mission 3 on the PS1. The story is a little on the exaggerated anime side, but I still enjoyed it. Customizing the mechs and each character's special moves was great. The biggest downside is that I found the missions to be very repetitive after a while - nearly every mission was either defeat all enemies or defeat the boss.

It seems like I can play the original on DS, get a translated cart of FM: Gun Hazard, and get FM3 on PSX--but the second game has never been localized?

They're solid.

...EXCEPT Evolved.
That was a shitty wannabe Armored Core with crappy on foot parts
...It had potential, but missed a key part of why Armored Core works, instead it winds up just being JRPG leveling with a mech.

Left Alive looks good but we know nothing, like Jon Snow.

I think the ds port added a bonus scenario related to one of the later games, but I haven't played any of them besides three and gh.
