Told my friend I wouldve love to be one of those explorers in the age of discovery and his response was you drive a mustang so false. Or if I state a problem Im having they will say your problems dont matter because you drive a mustang. Jesus, if you want a nice car then ******** get one. Mustangs arent even considered fancy cars so idk why they get so much hate.

Its got a reputation for being something to compensate for inadequacies.

Blame all the 40 year old, balding, fat, men(who are generally also short) that buy them during their midlife crisis.

I don't understand the appeal of a sports car. Why buy a car that can go 200mph when the highest speed limit in the US is 85? Maybe if you're German?

But now a luxury car, yes please.

Because bad boys don't follow the law. Duh.

But usually people who give other people shit for their cars do so cause they are jealous or feel inadequate cause they don't have one. Or it's just a joke and you're taking it too hard.

If you weren't interested in making some kind of statement then you wouldn't have bought an absurdly expensive status symbol that depreciates in value, is highly conspicuous in any setting and is very very loud.

It's cool that you liked it so you bought it, but you can't be unaware of the signals it sends out. Similarly if I bought a pair of $1500 blue suede shoes I could say I just bought them because I think they're cool, but obviously that will attract attention for better or worse.

I mean...I guess it's meant to sound stupid but it's not really sarcasm. I think Mustangs are cool, but once you're paying past like 30k or something for one that is super supped up it's pretty pointless unless you just want to feel like bad boy fast and furious racer man.

Which, I think a lot of people do. It's like those guys that buy Hellcats and then immediately crash them. What a waste.

But like, not every Mustang or Charger is *that* expensive so I don't know why everyone is acting like they are.

Ok so you do understand then. You bought something from an egotistical rather than pragmatic point of view, and when you do that it just comes down to whether other people share the same subjective tastes as you. I'm sorry you were hoping more people would be inspired by your purchase. I'm sure if I spent $40k on My Little Pony merchandise your opinion of that would not be favourable.

Again, they perform nicely - I rent them all the time, in addition to the current Camaro SS. Not what I consider a luxury car.

People like the look of sports cars, the power and handling, the sound of the exhaust and the fun factor.

It's not about straight way speed because nobody is going to go 200mph, is the car fun to drive? If the answer is yes then that person likes sports cars.

I dont care if its a luxury car. I could buy a bmw, Benz, Infiniti but I chose the pony because they have a name, reliable, and dont require dragon bones and gold gilded trinkets to maintain.

Pretty much this.

Top speed means nothing to me as I'm not about to go 150+ mph on public roads. What would interest me instead are engine type/size, acceleration, handling, exhaust note, etc.

You don't like sports cars, that's perfectly fine. I find most sedans boring tbh. I'm that guy that'll drop a twin turbo in my car, put big brakes on it and have fun making a loud, ridiculously fast car.

I don't care about traffic unless I have to be somewhere at a specific time, I like to get in a car and drive. I'll always have a sports car on deck and a project car waiting to be worked on, it's a passion.
